Job Summary

SVSU invites applicants for a one-year temporary Assistant Professor in the political science department for the 2025-2026 academic year. Specific teaching responsibilities may include introductory courses in Political Science, American Government, and World Politics with the potential for other courses based on expertise. All courses require instruction in writing and oral communication skills. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level, an ability to work with a broad spectrum of students, and a willingness to participate in departmental and university service such as advising student clubs, recruiting new students, supporting career and alumni events.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Earned PhD in Political Science from an accredited institution
  • Demonstrated success in teaching at the university level
  • Demonstrated success in teaching online or hybrid courses
  • Demonstrated success in teaching writing and oral communication skills
  • Experience mentoring undergraduate students

Preferred Qualifications

  • Subfield expertise in American Politics
  • Subfield expertise in International Relations and/or Comparative Politics
