Assistant Professor of Practice: Graphic Design & Digital Media

Description of Department:

The SUNY Oswego Department of Art and Design aims to provide serious art students with the tools needed to create foundations for the future. The department seeks ambitious students who wish to gain knowledge through hands-on experience, combining art and design history with contemporary developments within the field to understand the past and speculate on the future. As part of the College of Communication, Media, and the Arts, we enjoy collegial relationships with Cinema and Screen Studies, Communication Studies, Theatre, and Music in state-of-the-art facilities in Hewitt and Tyler Halls, collectively known as the Arts Corridor.

By working with art and design history, studio art, graphic design, illustration, and interaction design, students are given opportunities to expand their artistic horizons, define and use current methodologies, and firmly grasp the importance of their work in multiple aspects of modern society. Students and faculty boldly explore the tangible and the rhetorical dimensions of art.

At Oswego, students can elect degree programs that include the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) and Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) in Fine Arts with degree areas including Studio Art, Graphic Design, Illustration, and Interaction Design. There is also the opportunity to earn a minor in various art and design-related areas. We offer a wide range of courses in multimedia, illustration, art history, ceramics, painting, interaction design, drawing, photography, printmaking, sculpture, web design, 3D modeling, museum studies, graphic design, art therapy, and motion graphics.

Our studios place us firmly at the intersection of today's digital evolution, enabling us to dive into emerging media forms as they appear. Tyler Hall is well-equipped to support all our disciplinary areas across the fine and performing arts. The recently renovated Hewitt Hall houses state-of-the-art facilities designed to grow all digital and emerging media areas that support our established programs in graphic and interaction design, illustration, digital Media, and cinema and screen studies.
