Assistant Professor of Pre-Nursing/Biological Sciences
The Biology Department at Mount Saint Mary's University (Los Angeles) invites applicants for a full-time Assistant Professor position in the Biology Department/Pre-nursing Program. This position requires teaching and coordinating Human Anatomy and Human Physiology lecture and lab courses. Additional teaching roles may occasionally include Life Sciences, Biology major courses, Health Science and other pre-nursing courses as needed. The programs' goal is to support and elevate student success in their path to joining the Nursing program or other health-related fields.
Human Anatomy and Human Physiology are prerequisite courses for the Traditional Bachelor of Science in Nursing (TBSN) Degree Program at Mount Saint Mary's University. The curriculum and syllabus for these courses are standardized to ensure consistency and alignment with Nursing program requirements. Course are taught in-person across our two Los Angeles campuses: Chalon on the Westside and Doheny near downtown.
This is a full-time, Contractually-limited Term (CLT) position with the possibility of annual renewal. CLT faculty are eligible for promotion in rank but are not eligible for tenure.
Responsibilities include:
- Teaching Human Anatomy and Human Physiology in the Pre-nursing Program as the primary responsibility, with other courses as needed, including Life Sciences, Biology major courses, Health Science or other pre-nursing courses.
- Active participation in department and university service, including committee service and attendance at department and University meetings.
- Participation in faculty development opportunities.
- Serving as course coordinator for Human Anatomy and Human Physiology lecture and lab sections, curriculum standardization, communication with faculty teaching these courses, and alignment with program learning outcomes. Partial course release may be available.
- Scholarly activity related to the teaching or course coordinator roles.
- Working with Pre-nursing Program Director on on-going program assessments to ensure curriculum is aligned with identified, desired and measurable student learning outcomes.
- Select academic advising of pre-nursing majors to assist students in progression to the TBSN program.
Position Annual Hiring Salary Range:
Hiring salary can be above the posted pay range if candidate's qualifications are determined to be above the minimum requirements of the position description.
Job Requirements:
Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in the Biological Sciences and have experience teaching at the college level. The department is seeking a biologist who is strongly committed to excellence in undergraduate teaching and research and is dedicated to quality advising and mentoring of students.
An appreciation of the liberal arts tradition of education and service orientation, as well as experience or interest in contributing to and teaching in a diverse campus environment are required.

Work Location: Chalon Campus (West LA) with some days at the Doheny Campus (Downtown Los Angeles)
