Department Information
The Department of Professional Studies, within the School of Business & Professional Studies, offers baccalaureate degrees in Applied Psychology & Human Services, Criminal Justice, and Interdisciplinary Studies, as well as associate degrees in Psychology and Criminal Justice.
Job Summary
This position is responsible for conducting college courses for undergraduate psychology and human services students.
Responsibilities
- Teaches undergraduate courses appropriate to their appointment and credentialing.
- Plans and conducts classes in a manner conducive to creating an effective learning environment which helps students achieve the educational outcomes set by the college, the standards of the discipline, and external accrediting agencies.
- Compiles, administers and evaluates examinations and assignments appropriate to the educational outcomes of the college. These evaluations should be based exclusively on academic performance.
- Serves as academic advisor to students in their department and discipline.
- Serves as a mentor to students in their department and discipline.
- Serves on faculty committees at the department, college or system level as elected by the faculty or appointed by the administration.
- Supports student activities by serving as a club advisor and/or by attendance at student functions.
- Serves the college and community by providing expertise in his/her field to colleagues, schools, businesses and other organizations.
- Maintains the required number of office hours each week.
- Prompt and regular in performing job responsibilities.
- Available to teach classes at night and off-campus, in-person and online.
- Attends commencement.
- Maintains a constructive attitude with students and co-workers.
- Exhibits professional growth and development.
Required Qualifications
- Doctorate in an applied field of Psychology or Social Work or equivalent.
- Applicants who are currently "All But Dissertation" (ABD) will be considered, but the position strictly requires the completion of all doctoral requirements and conferral of the degree no later than August 1, 2027.
- Minimum of two years of college-level teaching
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD in Clinical Psychology or equivalent.
- In addition to clinical psychology credentials, and additional 18 graduate level credit hours in an alternate psychology, human services or social science area (e.g. Criminal Justice, Social Work, Human Services, Industrial Psychology, Cyber-Psychology, Applied Sociology).
- Face-to-face and online teaching experiences, with knowledge of Brightspace and Desire to Learn platforms.
- Real-world experience working in an applied area of psychology.
