"Assistant Professor of Psychology"

Overview

The Department of Psychology at Providence College invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. Candidates should possess a Ph.D. in Social Psychology (or closely related field), although ABD applicants with graduation expected by Fall 2026 will be considered. Candidates should demonstrate a proven record of teaching and mentorship, as well as be able to establish an active program of research involving undergraduates. The Department of Psychology places a high value on hiring individuals who are dedicated to teaching and mentoring students of various backgrounds to help promote a supportive learning experience in and outside the classroom. Area of research should broadly examine social psychological issues within an applied setting (e.g., cultural, legal, organizational, political).

Duties and Responsibilities

Candidates may expect to teach courses in their specialty area, with priority being given to those who have experience teaching cultural psychology. They will also be expected to contribute to the departmental curriculum, including courses in introduction to psychology and lab courses in research methods & statistics. Typical teaching load is 5-6 courses per academic year (9 credit hours per semester) with a cap of 15-25 students per class.
