Position Summary

We are seeking an exceptional and experienced candidate for an open-rank, tenure-track position in the Counseling Psychology doctoral (APA accredited) and Mental Health Counseling master’s (MPCAC accredited) programs in the Department of Counseling and Human Development Services at the University of Georgia to begin August 1, 2026. Specifically, we seek a candidate whose program of work demonstrates innovation, inclusive excellence, and interdisciplinarity to continually enhance research and teaching excellence for our doctoral and master’s students as well as advances our department’s goals and aligns with the Mary Frances Early College of Education’s mission.

Responsibilities

for this position include: 1) teaching core graduate courses in counseling psychology, mental health counseling; 2) providing clinical supervision of field experiences in counseling psychology and mental health counseling; 3) conducting research that is relevant to the field of counseling psychology; 4) advising doctoral students and serving on dissertation committees; and 5) contributing service to university, college, departmental, and program committees, to professional associations, and to local, national, and/or international communities. The MFE COE recognizes that the scholarly work of faculty often includes the integration of teaching, research, and service.

About the College/Unit/Department: The Programs: The APA-accredited Counseling Psychology and MPCAC-accredited Mental Health Counseling programs prepare health service professionals in teaching, research, and/or the provision of health services guided by an integrated biopsychosocial model of care. Our program emphasizes a strengths-based approach to understanding human and social experiences that can help prevent and/or solve the psychological problems of individuals, couples, families, groups, and organizations. Our faculty have established records of scholarship in identity development, ethics, strengths-based and inclusive counseling approaches, health service integrated care settings and with incarcerated populations, and career development. The Counseling Psychology program emphasizes research mentorship and training in evidence-based practices. Doctoral and master’s students provide psychological and counseling services through the Center for Counseling and Personal Evaluation (CCPE), an integrated in-house training clinic staffed by students and faculty. Graduate students in both programs also complete community-based supervised clinical experiences (e.g., community mental health, inpatient and residential treatment, VA hospitals).

The Department: Embedded in the Mary Frances Early College of Education (MFE COE), the Department of Counseling and Human Development Services has three concentration areas and seven degree programs, including four doctoral programs (Counseling Psychology, College Student Affairs Administration, Counselor Education and Supervision, and Student Affairs Leadership) and three accredited master’s programs (Clinical Mental Health Counseling, School Counseling, and College Student Affairs Administration), and offers Ed.S. certification in School Counseling as well as an undergraduate minor in Human Services. The Counseling Psychology and Mental Health Counseling Programs, Department of Counseling and Human Development Services, and the University of Georgia have a strong commitment to contextualizing research, teaching, interventions and psychological practice to the backgrounds of those we serve.

The College: As the 4th largest public college of education in the country and the 3rd largest college at UGA, the Mary Frances Early College of Education (MFE COE) improves the lives of residents of Georgia and beyond through our research, instruction, and service. Minimum Qualifications: An earned doctorate from an APA-accredited program in counseling, clinical or school psychology.

Additional Requirements: Candidates must be licensed or license-eligible as a psychologist in Georgia. Candidates must be approved for tenure upon appointment before hire.

Preferred qualifications include one or more of the following: 1) strong record of scholarly research that advances the field of counseling psychology; 2) demonstrated teaching experience of at least three years with graduate and/or undergraduate students in psychology or counseling; 3) leadership, program coordination, and/or program development experience of at least one semester or quarter term.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies: Preference will be given to applicants with a demonstrated record of professional contributions to counseling psychology in the areas of research, teaching, and/or service.
