Position Announcement
The Department of Psychology at Utah Tech University (UT) invites applications for two full-time tenure-track faculty positions as Assistant Professors of Psychology from individuals who hold a doctoral degree (PhD or PsyD) in Clinical, Counseling, or School Psychology from an APA-accredited program (or be ABD with anticipated completion before appointment).
We seek dedicated teacher-scholars who will contribute both to our undergraduate psychology program and a future Master of Science program in Clinical Psychology, which we are currently proposing and for which we will be seeking APA accreditation. We seek colleagues committed to excellence in teaching, clinical training, and program development-faculty who model ethical practice and are prepared to contribute to the education of future mental health professionals in alignment with APA accreditation standards. UT is particularly welcoming to active learning modalities in our coursework.
UT's psychology program includes a robust undergraduate program in Psychology and a graduate program in Marriage and Family Therapy, and is developing a new Master of Science in Clinical Psychology. The department has recently expanded into a new state-of-the-art building featuring a dedicated psychology training clinic. These positions provide a unique opportunity to build and shape a new graduate program in a dynamic and supportive academic environment. More information about the department and its associated programs and faculty can be found online at https://psychology.utahtech.edu/.
Responsibilities
This full-time, tenure-track position involves teaching responsibilities within the Psychology Department, including general education courses and courses within the major. Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to fulfill service obligations and engage in scholarship commensurate with the expectations of a faculty member at a regional comprehensive university like UT. We encourage and value faculty scholarship that involves students, as well as scholarship that informs the faculty member's teaching.
The specific expectations for the successful candidate will be to:
- Teach a 12-credit load per semester, consisting of:
- 2 undergraduate courses per semester that relate to the faculty member's expertise (e.g., psychology of abnormal behavior, introduction to clinical psychology) or one of our general education courses (Introduction to Psychology or Human Development Through the Lifespan).
- 2 graduate-level courses in the MS Clinical Psychology program.
- Provide clinical supervision and training in our new on-campus Psychology Training Clinic.
- Support program development and APA accreditation preparation and review processes.
- Engage in departmental, college, and university service. Service expectations are phased in, with reduced responsibilities in the first two years to support teaching and program development.
- Engage in scholarship and/or creative activity appropriate to a teaching university. UT values both scholarship of discovery and scholarship of pedagogy within the context of our teaching mission. Clinical work associated with mental health therapy is an accepted form of scholarly engagement when accompanied by other scholarly production such as conference presentations or publications.
We are especially interested in applicants whose clinical expertise focuses on adults, though experience with adolescents and children will also be valued. Our graduate curriculum emphasizes philosophy and ethics of clinical practice, as well as psychological assessment and diagnosis of mental disorders.
Qualifications
- Doctorate (PhD or PsyD) from an APA-accredited program in either Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, or School Psychology, or be ABD from such a program with anticipated completion before July 1, 2026.
- Evidence of effective teaching and clinical supervision.
- Commitment to ethical practice, and demonstrated cultural humility.
- Experience with APA accreditation and thoughtful incorporation of AI tools is preferred.
- Licensed or license-eligible in the state of Utah appropriate.
