The Opportunity

This opportunity to join the Department of Pediatrics at the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons at the rank of Assistant Professor is an exciting one. Columbia University Irving Medical Center, one of the nation’s foremost academic health science centers working together with one of the nation’s premier health systems, NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. The Division of Neonatology at Columbia University in partnership with Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital is seeking a board-certified neonatologist with specialized training and interest Neonatal Neurocritical Care to lead our emerging NeuroNICU program.  This neonatologist will have responsibility for overseeing all facets of the multidisciplinary NeuroNICU program. This academic faculty position has leadership, program building, educational, clinical and research components. Excellent neonatology and neurocritical care skills are required, along with a commitment to teamwork and academic mission. It is expected that the Director will have training and/or experience that makes them eligible for or already certified by the United Council for Neurological Subspecialities in Neonatal Neurocritical Care (UCNS). Prior experience directing or participating in a NeuroNICU team is preferred. Competitive salary, benefits, and support are offered commensurate with academic rank and experience. Professorial rank will be consistent with level of experience. The successful candidate must be eligible to practice in New York State.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsibilities will include service in our outstanding 75-bed level IV NICU (that includes pre- and postoperative congenital cardiac care) and high-risk delivery service with >5000 deliveries per year. NeuroNICU leadership and program development will be a substantial portion of this job.
  • Program development will be highly collaborative, integrating training and practice across Neonatology, Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Radiology, Neurology and other departments for faculty, fellows, trainees, nursing and supporting clinical services (OT/PT/SLP). (A Nurse Practitioner is being hired to support the daily function of this program).
  • Participation in weekday service and weekday, weekend and holiday call will be in an amount proportional to other neonatology faculty with leadership, research and program development responsibilities.
  • Active participation in Departmental  and Divisional faculty activities, meetings and conferences is required. University service and public engagement activities are also expected of faculty. You may be invited to participate in Divisional, Departmental and /or medical school committees.

Qualifications

  • Must have a MD or DO degree and an active NYS Medical License.
  • Must have Board certification in Neonatology or an equivalent board certification with experience in the NICU with clinical training in pediatrics.
  • Consistently strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and sustain effective working relationships with professionals in other disciplines.
  • The ability to create a high-energy results-oriented work environment that encourages colleagues and staff to value each other’s contributions.
  • The ability to share and celebrate success with colleagues and staff.

COMPENSATION

Compensation arrangements are competitive and commensurate with both experience and achievement.

Hiring Salary Range:

  • Assistant Professor $280,000 - $295,000
  • Associate Professor $295,000 -$310,000
  • Professor $310,000 - $330,000
