The Department of Psychiatry is seeking pediatric health psychologists assigned to work in the Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Consultation Liaison Service at CUIMC. This role will include working with patients with chronic illness, with a focus on organ failure and transplant, and comorbid behavioral health needs. These are full-time, clinical positions collaborating with the pediatric organ transplant teams (heart, liver, kidney and multi-visceral) as well as may involve work with other patients considering transplant such as lung transplant or bone marrow. The position entails treating patients spanning outpatient and inpatient settings. Primary responsibilities involve the screening, assessment, and treatment of patients including individual, family, and group psychotherapy. The emphasis of the clinical work will be on working with patients and families with potential for transplant. Clinical work can encompass pain management, as well as anxiety, grief and trauma related to medical conditions. This is an excellent opportunity to work as part of a multidisciplinary pediatric specialty team.

This position strongly encourages training or previous clinical effort in working in medical/surgical settings with ill patients. Experience working with pediatric patients is preferred. Candidates should have demonstrated interest, experience and training in evidence-supported treatments, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Applicants should strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well across disciplines and function effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team. This is a non-tenured track position. Academic appointments are commensurate with qualifications. Columbia University offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience and credentials. Incumbents will receive an academic appointment allowing the opportunity to also precept and mentor students.

Candidate(s) will conduct intake evaluations/diagnostic assessments of pediatric patients with psychiatric disorders and psychological distress in the setting of organ failure and transplant potential.

  1. Candidate(s) will conduct pre-transplant risk assessment of children and adolescents with potential for transplant or with transplant histories and who may struggle emotionally
  2. Candidate(s) will provide individual, family, and group psychotherapy.
  3. Candidate(s) will work closely with multidisciplinary pediatric transplant teams.
  4. Candidate(s) will have opportunities to attend case conferences and Grand Rounds at CUIMC. Opportunities may exist for clinical supervision, peer supervision and teaching.

Candidates will work closely with clinical teams, including other psychologists/social workers, psychiatrists and psychiatric nurse-practitioners

Minimum Educational Requirements:

  • PsyD or PhD in Clinical Psychology
  • NYS license or license eligible required, candidates may be required to obtain NJ license licensure preferred.
  • Instructor level: Requires graduation from an APA-accredited doctoral program in Clinical Psychology, and completion of an APA-accredited pre-doctoral internship program.
  • Assistant Professor level: Requires 2-3 years clinical experience in a hospital or private practice setting.

Hiring Salary Range: $125,000 - $139,650
