Assistant Professor, Psychological Science

The Carthage College Department of Psychological Science invites applications for a three-year renewable contract instructional faculty member, at the Assistant Professor rank, to start in August 2026 with a specialty in social psychology.

We welcome candidates with additional experience in personality psychology or industrial-organizational psychology. The successful candidate will teach eight courses per year (divided across two semesters with the option of teaching during January/summer terms), including courses in their area of specialization, Research Methods and Statistics, and a team-taught course in Introduction to Psychological Science. Research is a critical component of the department’s mission. As such, this role will involve mentorship of students in research, which is typically integrated with the professor’s ongoing research program. There is also an expectation to provide service to the department, including student advising.

The faculty of the Department of Psychological Science at Carthage College are a community of highly collaborative teacher-scholars. The candidate will be joining a rich psychology program with a deep focus on the science of psychology. Research methods and statistics are thoughtfully integrated throughout the curriculum. Students leave our program equipped with a skillset that allows them to succeed both in graduate programs and in careers that are indirectly related to psychology. Psychology is also a popular major for students pursuing occupational therapy.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must have a Ph.D. in psychology (awarded by their start date)
  • Have college-level teaching experience
  • Ability to involve undergraduates in their research

Interested candidates should submit a single PDF file including a cover letter, curriculum vitae, teaching and research statements, and the names and contact information of three professional references.
