About the Role

We are looking for an exceptional quantitative researcher to join our ambitious and rapidly expanding Warwick Screening team. This is a rare chance to play a central role in a major national trial while being fully supported to accelerate your academic career through fellowships and development opportunities. In this permanent position, you will be providing a crucial skill set meaning your expertise will have immediate impact and long‑term value.

You will take a leading role in the Early Detection using Information Technology in Health (EDITH) trial—an innovative Randomised Controlled Trial (RCT) investigating the use of artificial intelligence to transform breast cancer screening, Co‑led by Professor Sian Taylor‑Phillips and Professor Fiona Gilbert and supported by Warwick’s Clinical Trial Unit (CTU), this ground-breaking study offers the chance to work at the forefront of AI‑driven healthcare research.

The successful candidate will work closely with the trial team in the academic delivery of the trial. This may involve but is not restricted to: supporting the data collection and statistical analysis alongside statisticians from the CTU, leading a large sub-analysis on test accuracy, producing documents to record research decisions, overseeing necessary amendments to the trial protocol, attending trial management group meetings and presenting at co-applicant meetings.

You will also have opportunities to expand your skills by working collaboratively with team members on other projects and develop your research career beyond the EDITH trial. This includes analysis of the ATHENA-M dataset of 13 million women attending breast cancer screening. You will be expected to contribute to grant applications and publications, and grow rapidly into an independent researcher within Warwick Screening—supported every step of the way.

Informal Queries

  • For informal queries about the role, please contact Dr Karoline Freeman, Associate Professor, at K.Freeman@warwick.ac.uk.

Flexible Working

  • We will consider applications for employment on a part-time or other flexible working basis (e.g. job share), despite the position being advertised as full-time.

About You

We are seeking someone with an excellent first degree and a PhD in a relevant field, along with postdoctoral experience in applied primary research—ideally within health screening or related areas. Whether your background includes trials, epidemiology, or observational research, you will bring strong analytical and problem‑solving skills and the ability to thrive both independently and collaboratively. You will be confident navigating tight timelines, supporting colleagues, and contributing to world‑leading screening research. Knowledge of health or breast cancer screening is advantageous, but not essential. Above all, you will be a strong communicator, highly organised, motivated, and ready to lead upwards when needed.

Full details of the duties and selection criteria for this role can be found in the vacancy advert on the University of Warwick's jobs pages. You will be routed to this when you click on the 'Apply' button.
