Job description:

Research Associate in Motor Neuron Disease

Are you a researcher with a passion for improving clinical care? We have an exciting opportunity for you to join us as a Research Associate to lead a high-impact project developing a UK-wide clinical practice framework for pain management in MND.

You will join the Sheffield Institute for Translational Neuroscience (SITraN), a world-leading, purpose-built centre dedicated to neurodegenerative research. You will work within the Better Outcomes for MND Research group, a well-connected team with an international reputation for co-creating research with patients to change clinical practice. You will be mentored by Dr Haris Stavroulakis (Lead) and Dr Alys Griffiths (Co-Lead), working alongside experts in neurology, palliative care, PROMs, and telehealth.

The University of Sheffield is a remarkable place to work. We offer a highly competitive annual leave entitlement (41 days including bank holidays/closure days), a generous pension scheme, and a commitment to your development and wellbeing.

This role has arisen through new funding from the MND Association to address an urgent gap in clinical care. In this role, you will be responsible for mapping current UK practice, conducting in-depth qualitative work with patients and staff, and coordinating a longitudinal cohort study. This position offers you the opportunity to make a tangible impact on the UK healthcare service by leading the consensus-building process for a new national clinical framework. You will use and develop advanced skills in mixed-methods, systematic reviews, and multi-stakeholder engagement.

We are seeking a candidate with a PhD (or equivalent experience) in a relevant health science discipline. If you are passionate about patient-centered research and have experience in recruiting and consenting patients and healthcare professionals, we would love to hear from you.

You will need strong skills in mixed-methods and systematic reviews to synthesise complex data into clinical recommendations. As this role involves working closely with people living with MND and their families, you should possess highly effective communication skills and the ability to work sensitively within a clinical context. You will be an independent thinker who enjoys working collaboratively in a diverse, multidisciplinary team.

We are committed to exploring flexible working opportunities which benefit the individual and University.

We build teams of people from different heritages and lifestyles from across the world, whose talent and contributions complement each other to greatest effect. We believe diversity in all its forms delivers greater impact through research, teaching and student experience.
