Job Description Summary:

The Assistant Professor in the Department of Radiology provides high-quality, evidence-based, and patient-centered care within their area of specialization, including the management of thoracic and cardiovascular imaging. This position offers the opportunity to practice comprehensive chest and cardiac imaging in a high-volume, tertiary care academic medical center while contributing to education, research, and multidisciplinary collaboration. The selected candidate will join a collegial team of subspecialty-trained radiologists supported by advanced technology, strong institutional resources, and a culture that values clinical excellence, innovation, and academic distinction.

Job Description:

Job Duties Outlined:

  • Provide specialized clinical, educational, and/or research services in cardiothoracic imaging using current, evidence-based practices and advanced imaging techniques.
  • Interpret a full spectrum of thoracic imaging studies, including chest radiography, thoracic CT (including low-dose lung cancer screening CT and high-resolution CT), chest MRI, and CT angiography for pulmonary embolism, as well as imaging related to interstitial lung disease, lung cancer staging, and complex pulmonary and mediastinal pathology.
  • Perform and interpret advanced cardiac imaging studies, including cardiac CT and MRI (e.g., coronary CTA, structural heart evaluations, and congenital cardiac MRI).
  • Deliver comprehensive services across clinical and academic settings, supported by high-quality technologist and nursing teams, efficient workflows, and robust imaging infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary clinical teams including pulmonary medicine, thoracic surgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology, and pathology through tumor boards and multidisciplinary conferences to support patient care and program development.
  • Contribute to the education, training, and mentorship of medical students, residents, fellows, and other learners within the Department of Radiology.
  • Participate in departmental and divisional meetings, case conferences, teaching rounds, seminars, and other academic activities as assigned.
  • Engage in scholarly activity, clinical program development, and ongoing professional development to advance expertise in cardiothoracic imaging.

Required Qualifications:

Education: MD or DO (or equivalent)

  • This position requires a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure that candidates have the foundational knowledge and skill set required to perform the duties of the position. The level of degree is based on accreditation requirements, institutional standards of academic and professional excellence, alignment with peer institution benchmarks, and contributes to the credibility and effectiveness of the role within the university community.

Certifications/Licenses:

  • ABR board certified/eligible in Diagnostic Radiology.
  • Eligible for licensure in Kansas and Missouri.

Work Experience: Completion of a 12-month Cardiothoracic and/or Cardiovascular Imaging fellowship.
