Assistant Professor - Surgical Technology
FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
The Department of Allied Health, Mental Health and Human Services at Kingsborough Community College (CUNY) invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Surgical Technology.
The successful candidate will perform didactic and clinical teaching, research, and student advisement duties in support of the CAAHEP-accredited Surgical Technology Program, and will participate in departmental, college, and university service consistent with CUNY faculty responsibilities.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate didactic and clinical courses in Surgical Technology
- Provide clinical supervision and evaluation of students in laboratory and affiliated clinical settings
- Advise and mentor students toward academic and professional success
- Participate in curriculum development, assessment, and program evaluation consistent with CAAHEP and ARC/STSA Standards and Guidelines
- Engage in scholarly, professional, and creative activities appropriate to rank
- Serve on departmental, college, and university committees
- Contribute to program accreditation, compliance, and continuous quality improvement efforts
- Perform related academic and administrative duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Surgical Technology or a closely related discipline or equivalent terminal degree
- Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)
- Recent clinical experience in Surgical Technology
- Demonstrated ability to teach successfully at the college level
- Evidence of scholarship, professional achievement, or academic potential.
- Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, administrators, and external clinical partners.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior teaching experience in an accredited Surgical Technology or allied health program
- Knowledge of and commitment to Associate Degree Surgical Technology education
- Experience with curriculum development, assessment, and accreditation reporting
- Evidence of ongoing scholarly or professional activity
- Familiarity with CAAHEP and ARC/STSA accreditation standards
