The Landscape Architecture Program, which house the Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA) and the Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Urban Design (BSSUD) programs, invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning in Fall 2026. The successful candidate will primarily teach in the MLA Program, with additional responsibilities supporting the BSSUD Program.
This is a tenure-track position with responsibilities in teaching, research, and service. The successful candidate will teach studio, core, and elective courses, as well as advise on the thesis. There will also be opportunities to contribute to the BSSUD program by serving as a capstone advisor and teaching core or elective courses. Applicants should demonstrate a strong and current specialization in landscape architecture, specifically in landscape ecology, plant identification, and planting design, as well as landscape construction materials, methods, technologies, and sustainability and resilience.
The anticipated teaching load is at least nine credit hours per semester, typically consisting of a design studio and a core, elective, or seminar course. Additional responsibilities include participation in thesis committees and BSSUD capstone reviews. Specific teaching assignments will be determined based on the candidate’s background, experience, and qualifications. In alignment with UTA’s designation as a Carnegie R1 research university, a portion of the workload will be dedicated to research and/or creative activities, in addition to teaching and service within the candidate’s area of expertise.
Required Qualifications
- Applicants must have a terminal landscape architecture degree from an LAAB-accredited institution (MLA). Applicants must have earned a Ph.D. degree in landscape architecture or related disciplines. Applicants who are still pursuing a Ph.D. degree must have completed it by the time of the hiring. Applicants should have a record of excellence in teaching, research, creative works, or professional practice in landscape architecture. Applicants must demonstrate an inspiring teaching, research/creative activity, and service agenda to primarily serve at the graduate level. Applicants must demonstrate strong skills and knowledge for teaching and research/creative activity in at least three of the following areas: Plant Identification & Planting Design Landscape Construction Materials, Methods, and Technologies Landscape Ecology, Biodiversity, & Nature-Based Solutions Landscape Resilience, Climate Action, and Sustainability
Preferred Qualifications
In addition to the required qualification, applicants with the following conditions are strongly encouraged to apply:
- Professional licensure and/or significant and current professional experience in landscape architecture, or related fields.
- Evidence of exceptional research or professional practice work and strong communication skills.
- Experience with community outreach and engagement and its incorporation into research, teaching, and service.
