Position Description
The Department of Psychology at the University of Mississippi invites applications for two new faculty positions to support our growing undergraduate and doctoral programs. In addition to existing department facilities on the beautiful main campus, the Department of Psychology is expanding into a newly renovated 24,000 sq ft space in the South Oxford Center (SOC). Department space at the SOC will include faculty offices and labs, administrative space, graduate workspaces, seminar rooms, and the Psychological Services Center (PSC). The SOC is a short drive from the main campus with regular bus service between locations. The SOC provides easy access and parking for community research participants. This posting is for a tenure track open area position. Please also review our other posting for a clinical faculty position in the area of applied behavior analysis. Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) in Psychology (Open Area)
We seek applicants for a tenure-track position with applied research interests (Open Area) who can contribute to the experimental psychology PhD program, which includes expertise in behavioral analysis, cognition, developmental, and social psychology. We are particularly interested in individuals whose research focuses on applied issues, which may include, but is not limited to, Behavioral Economics, Judgment and Decision Making, and Health Behavior or Addiction (e.g. Gambling, Drug/Alcohol, Smoking). Faculty will be expected to teach graduate and undergraduate courses and supervise graduate students in the Experimental Psychology PhD program. Applicants for this position should have a record of research productivity and a plan for developing and maintaining a substantive research program that involves graduate students and would likely attract external funding.
Clinical Faculty Position in Behavior Analysis (Open Rank: Clinical Assistant, Clinical Associate or Clinical Full Professor)
We also seek applicants for a position focused on teaching Behavioral Psychology, with expertise in neurodiversity (e.g., autism), early intervention, and/or verbal behavior. Successful applicants should be committed to evidence-based supervision and teaching of graduate and undergraduate courses. Faculty in this position will support our new undergraduate emphasis in Applied Behavior Analysis. Potential applicants are encouraged to apply for both positions as applicable.
About Our Programs
The Psychology Department consists of 30 full-time faculty members and over 60 graduate students. Graduate programs include the APA-accredited doctoral program in Clinical Psychology and a doctoral program in Experimental Psychology. The Clinical Psychology program adheres to a scientist-practitioner model of training, with a particular focus on evidence-based approaches. The Experimental Psychology training program focuses on behavioral analysis (with new undergraduate emphasis area), cognitive, developmental, and social psychology. Faculty both within and across programs frequently collaborate on research. Our graduate psychology programs were joint recipients of the 2021 Donald R. Minimum Qualifications
Applicants for either position must have completed – or be on track to complete by August 2026 - a Ph.D in Psychology or a related field.
For the Clinical Faculty (Open Rank) position, applicants must also have completed – or be on track to complete by August 2026 – a BCBA.
