Assistant Researcher
The UCLA Joint Institute for Regional Earth System Science and Engineering (JIFRESSE) invites applications for a position of Assistant Researcher whose research will focus on the application of remote sensing to coastal, watershed, and aquatic system resilience through active stakeholder engagement to co-develop science-based solutions. The research includes the following activities:
- Remote sensing-based analysis of ocean color products in nearshore systems, focusing on coastal darkening and its impacts on kelp ecosystems
- Investigation of wildfire impacts on regional water balances and water quality in coastal and inland aquatic systems
- Remote sensing applications in river systems to monitor hydrologic and ecological changes
- Partner and stakeholder engagement through workshops, trainings, and collaborative projects on wildfires, coastal resilience, and water system sustainability
- Mentoring early career scientists and graduate students in Earth science applications
