Position Overview

Position Summary: Under the direction of the Head Coach, provide guidance to rodeo athletes on performance, as well as responsibility for the management and livestock care of a NIRA Rodeo program.

Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities:

• In conjunction with the Head Coach, organize and conduct practice sessions
• Help athletes improve performance at each practice event
• Oversee care of livestock facilities; including but not limited to the student stall area and livestock pens
• Coordinate livestock as needed through vendor lease or purchase
• Coordinate on disposal of livestock at conclusion of season through return to vendor or sale
• Provide husbandry care of all livestock, including but not limited to health issues, workload of cattle and goats, and overall health of livestock
• Create and maintain a quarantine area for sick animals
• Create and maintain a pen for injured livestock
• Maintain required record of all livestock maintenance
• Assist Head Coach with athlete recruitment
• Regular and predictable attendance is required
• Other duties as assigned

Minimum Job Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree with one year of experience, or equivalent education and experience required
• A valid New Mexico Driver's License or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment is also required, as well as the ability to safely operate a motor vehicle in all kinds of weather and road conditions

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Demonstrated coaching skills in area of sporting specialty.
• Strong interpersonal, communication and leadership skills and the ability to work effectively with student athletes.
• In-depth knowledge of applicable sports and playing rules.
• Knowledge of the recruitment and retention of student-athletes.

Working Conditions

Physical Demand and Working Conditions:

• Work environment involves exposure to physical risks such as operating dangerous equipment or working with chemicals
• Work may involve exposure to unusual elements such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors and/or loud noises
• Work is active in nature that at times requires exerting up to 75 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects
