Assistant Teaching Professor/Associate Teaching Professor

The Department of Earth, Environmental and Geographical Sciences in the College of Humanities & Earth and Social Sciences at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte invites applications for a Teaching Professor in Environmental Structural Geology. The selected candidate will be appointed as Assistant Teaching Professor or Associate Teaching Professor, with rank determined by the candidate's qualifications. The appointment will be for a term of up to three years, renewable with the possibility for promotion. This is a nine-month non-tenure track position with competitive salary and benefits. Appointment is expected to begin August 10, 2026.

The successful candidate will be an important contributor to both the Geology major and the Earth and Environmental Sciences major, the newly-established Sustainability minor, as well as the General Education curriculum. The successful candidate is expected to teach Structural Geology, Physical Geology, and at least one course that will contribute to the Sustainability minor (e.g., Applied Geophysics). Potential contributions to upper-level courses in the candidate's area of specialization are also welcome. Finalists will be asked to discuss how their teaching practices engage, include, and eliminate barriers to learning for UNC Charlotte students, and how their educational approach helps increase the engagement and success of all students regardless of their entry pathway into the university.

Minimum Experience / Education:

UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned masters and/or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.

Preferred Education Skills and Experience:

Appointment at the Associate rank requires at least six years teaching experience at the University level. Outstanding candidates with fewer than six years teaching experience at the University level will be considered at the Assistant rank.

Required minimum qualifications are: 1) a PhD in Geology or a closely related discipline by the time of appointment; 2) the ability to effectively teach in the Geology, Earth and Environmental Sciences, and General Education curricula to a diverse undergraduate student body.
