Assistant Teaching Professor (Deputy Course Director for the Construction Engineering MSt programme)

Assistant Teaching Professor (Deputy Course Director for the Construction Engineering MSt programme)

Could you inspire and develop the construction industry leaders of tomorrow?

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the full-time post of Assistant Teaching Professor, who will serve as Deputy Course Director for the Construction Engineering Master of Studies (MSt) programme, based in the Department of Engineering's Civil Engineering Building on the Cambridge West site.

Widely acknowledged for delivering excellence, the Construction Engineering MSt Programme (CEM) is at the forefront of shaping and driving innovation in the construction industry in times of rapid change. The course is designed to equip current and future leaders from across the full breadth of the construction sector with the skills, knowledge and inspiration needed to meet the challenges facing society and build a more sustainable, productive, efficient and world-class industry.

The CEM is an established two-year, part-time, multidisciplinary leadership programme taught over 7 teaching weeks in Cambridge. It is run by the Cambridge Laing O'Rourke Centre for Construction Engineering and Technology in the University of Cambridge Department of Engineering, in association with Cambridge Judge Business School, and in collaboration with academics from other Departments and Universities and experts from industry and government. The programme provides a unique opportunity for professionals in the construction sector to step beyond their immediate context and explore the future of the industry alongside leading experts in the field.

The Deputy Course Director will play an important role in the management and ongoing development of the programme, supporting the Course Director in ensuring the highest academic quality and professional standards. The postholder will contribute to course design and delivery, teaching, student supervision and assessment, while helping to maintain an outstanding academic and professional learning experience. They will also support student recruitment and admissions, coordinate educational activities, and contribute to aspects of the MSt research programme and the updating of course documentation.

The role also involves working closely with colleagues from across the University, industry practitioners, dissertation supervisors and other contributors to support the successful delivery of the programme. The successful candidate will bring experience of working collaboratively as part of a small, experienced and cohesive team. They will help strengthen existing relationships with employers and sponsors, build new connections across industry, and engage with senior decision-makers across business and academia to support the continued relevance, impact and development of CEM as a dynamic and distinctive Masters programme.

Beyond the CEM, the Deputy Course Director will support the development and delivery of complementary educational offerings within the Cambridge Laing O'Rourke Centre, including bespoke executive education and open-access paid online short courses.

Candidates should have a PhD in a relevant area and a strong profile in construction engineering or a closely related field, together with evidence of teaching, leadership and engagement with industry or professional practice. They will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, together with the presence and confidence to engage effectively with senior academic colleagues, industry leaders and other high-achieving professionals. This is a role for someone who is comfortable operating at the interface between academia and industry, building strong relationships and working with able and experienced individuals across both worlds.
