Full-time Teaching Professor in the Department of Criminal Justice & Criminology at the University of North Carolina, Charlotte

The Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte invites applications for a full-time, on-campus position as a Lecturer or Teaching Professor. The rank is open to Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, or Assistant, Associate, or Full Teaching Professor, and is dependent upon highest degree earned and experience/qualifications. The start date is August 15, 2026. This is a non-tenure track position. The position has an initial appointment of three years with the possibility of continued reappointments depending upon performance. There are four required qualifications: (1) a Master’s or Ph.D. in Criminal Justice or a related discipline or a J.D. at the time of appointment, (2) experience or interest/training in teaching introductory and upper-level undergraduate courses in general areas across the discipline of Criminal Justice & Criminology, (3) experience or interest/training in teaching online, and (4) evidence of, or the potential for, excellence in teaching. Prior teaching experience, especially online teaching experience, is preferred. The workload of a lecturer/teaching professor primarily involves teaching (typically four courses per semester, some of which may be online), but also includes some service to the department, college, university, and/or community.

The Department. The Department consists of fifteen tenure-track faculty members and three full-time lecturers and/or teaching professors. The B.A. (approximately 670 majors and 125 minors) and M.S. (approximately 25 graduate students) degrees are earned in Criminal Justice & Criminology, and the Department contributes to the undergraduate minor in Legal Studies, the Interdisciplinary Ph.D. Program in Public Policy, and to the School of Data Science.

The College and University. As the largest and most academically diverse college at UNC Charlotte, the College of Humanities & Earth and Social Sciences houses 15 departments, 13 interdisciplinary programs, and 7 applied centers. We offer a wide range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs with extensive honors and early-entry options. The College plays a pivotal role in delivering on the university’s goals in the areas of research excellence, student success and experience, and community engagement. Through their scholarship and teaching, the College’s 350+ faculty members seek to deepen our understanding of complex problems and lead the university in interdisciplinary collaboration.
