Assistant Teaching Professor of Chinese
The Department of East Asian Studies at Brown University invites applications for a full-time Assistant Teaching Professor position in Chinese language, renewable every three years, effective July 1, 2026. An M.A. degree in Chinese culture, linguistics, language pedagogy, or related fields is required and a Ph.D. degree in one of these fields is preferred.
Candidates should be able to teach at all levels of the program with native or near-native fluency in Chinese (Mandarin) and a strong command of English. Priority will be given to those who have independently taught Chinese to English-speaking students at the college level. Demonstrated excellence in teaching is essential. Additionally, experience in developing teaching materials, organizing academic events, engaging in professional publications, and presenting at regional, national or international conferences, will be favorably regarded.
All candidates must submit a letter of application, a curriculum vitae, a teaching portfolio (including a list of courses taught, syllabi for courses where they served as the lead instructor, a statement of teaching philosophy, sample teaching materials, and recent teaching evaluations),and three letters of recommendation. Please also provide a link to a classroom teaching demonstration video (approximately 30 minutes). Candidates should address how they would contribute to the research and/or teaching missions of our diverse and inclusive university community.
