Pay Range
The compensation for this appointment will range from $70,000 to $76,000 annually and reflects what California Baptist University reasonably expects to pay for this staff appointment. Actual compensation may vary based on the qualifications and experience of the applicant, as well as market conditions. In addition to wages, CBU offers a robust suite of employee benefits.

Position Summary Information

Summary
Under general supervision, assists in coaching duties for the sport assigned at California Baptist University. Assists with aspects of the program that may include administrative duties, recruitment, training and/or strength training for athletic competition by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Understand and agree to abide by the mission of CBU and the CBU Athletics Department.
  2. Assist head coach in organizing, preparing, and conducting individual and team practices, training, and competition using sound principles and judgment consistent with the philosophy of CBU Athletics.
  3. Assist with the design of workout programs and training routines to improve athletic performance.
  4. Assist as directed with implementing and supervising athletic training, strength, and conditioning workouts; provides technical support and training to athletes, as appropriate to the sport.
  5. Responsible for bookings and execution of all team travel.
  6. Participate in various fundraising, marketing, and promotion activities.
  7. May perform administrative duties including ordering and maintaining equipment, monitoring budgets, and initiating correspondence.
  8. Assist in coaching all sport practices throughout the season.
  9. Monitor and coordinate team social media in cooperation with the sports information and marketing department.
  10. Motivate team for maximum performance by utilizing motivational philosophies that meet the needs of the students and that are consistent with the CBU Athletic Program philosophy.
  11. Display good sportsmanship in relationships with students, staff, officials, and opponents as consistent with NCAA policies regarding the principle of sportsmanship and ethical conduct.
  12. Effectively manage time in a demanding work environment.
  13. Assist in recruiting and following up with qualified student athletes by phone, e-mail, or through on-campus visits. Within the framework of CBU and NCAA policies, recruit prospective student-athletes who are of the level necessary to be successful academically and athletically.
  14. Assist with video capture of competitions and film review with athletes.
  15. Adhere to all, sport, institutional, conference and NCAA by-laws and regulations.
  16. Ensure the physical, emotional, and social welfare of student-athletes
  17. Establish and ensure a safe environment for student-athletes.
  18. Assist in the organization, promotion, and execution of CBU summer camps.
  19. Assist in promoting academic excellence through implementation of team academic plan.
  20. Support the head coach in monitoring and reinforcing all NCAA bylaws and procedures.
  21. May provide transportation for recruits and/or student-athletes as needed, including driving to off-campus locations in accordance with institutional and NCAA policies.

Supervisory Responsibilities
This position has no supervisory duties.

  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control.
  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
  • Ability to travel, including domestic/international air travel, and work nights/weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to effectively assist the head coach in arranging home and away contests according to conference and NCAA requirements and submit travel paperwork and NCAA pass lists on time.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATION / PERMITS : A valid California Driver’s license is required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS : The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job, which may include sport specific activities such as participating in wrestling training with student-athletes. While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; and sit. Requires visual acuity to read words and numbers and speaking and hearing ability sufficient to communicate in person or over the phone. Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day. WORK ENVIRONMENT : The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university; and one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. NCAA experience preferred.
