Job Summary
The Soules College of Business at The University of Texas at Tyler invites qualified individuals to apply for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor of Human Resource Development. The Department is looking for an emerging or accomplished scholar to help achieve its vision to be the program of choice for students, practitioners, executives, and/or educators who are seeking a corporate and/or academic career in human resource development. The department currently offers bachelor's (BS), master's (MS), and doctorate (PhD) degrees in Human Resource Development (HRD). Department faculty have led the field through teaching, scholarship, and service including as leaders in the Academy of Human Resource Development and editors for HRD journals.
The position begins August 2026 and is an academic year appointment with the potential for summer teaching.
Priority application deadline is Friday, January 15, 2026 but review of applications will begin immediately, and the position will remain open until filled.
The salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Teaching: Develop and teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in HRD, with a particular focus on talent development and organizational development. Supervise dissertation research.
- Scholarship: Maintain an active research agenda in HRD or closely related field resulting in publications in top tier referred journals. Develop or maintain a record of external funding.
- Service: Develop and maintain collaborative partnerships with professionals in public and private sector organizations; contribute to relevant professional organizations; service on departmental, college, and university committees. Advise/mentor undergraduate and/or graduate students.
- Maintain regular on-campus presence.
Required Qualifications
- An earned doctorate in HRD, industrial organizational psychology, or a closely related field
- Demonstrated record of, or potential for scholarly productivity
- Minimum of five years of work experience in business, industry, government, or a nonprofit organization as a practitioner in the field of human resource development, or as an internal or external performance consultant.
- Delivering online instruction
- Knowledge of quantitative methodologies and advanced statistics
- Experience in publishing research through refereed publications
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience teaching and supervising students preparing for role in human resource development including passing industry certification exams such as the APTD, CPLP, CPT, CFT, and CDT.
- Experience in advising undergraduate and graduate students
- Experience in writing and directing grants and contracts
- Experience in supervising doctoral dissertation research
- Record of leadership with relevant agencies and/or organizations.
