Job Description
The Dean of Students and Faculty in a dental school plays a pivotal role in shaping the educational experience of future dental professionals, ensuring academic excellence, and fostering a supportive and innovative environment for faculty and students alike
Required Qualifications
A doctoral degree in dentistry (D.D.S. or D.M.D). Extensive experience in academic leadership, preferably within a dental school or similar healthcare educational institution. Strong understanding of accreditation standards, educational trends, and regulatory requirements in dental education. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Visionary leadership with a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in education and practice.
Job Duties
- Curriculum Development: Collaborate with faculty members to design and update the dental curriculum, ensuring it meets accreditation standards and prepares students for professional practice.
- Educational Policies: Develop and enforce policies related to academic standards, student progression, and assessment procedures
- Quality Assurance: Monitor the quality of teaching and learning within the dental school, promoting continuous improvement and innovation in educational methods
- Faculty Recruitment: Participate in the selection and hiring of faculty members, ensuring a diverse and qualified teaching staff
- Professional Development: Support faculty development through workshops, seminars, and opportunities for research and publication
- Performance Evaluation: Conduct regular evaluations of faculty performance, providing feedback and support for career advancement
- Student Services: Oversee student services such as counseling, career advising, and academic support to promote student well-being and success
- Student Discipline: Address student conduct issues in accordance with school policies, promoting a positive and respectful learning environment
- Student Engagement: Foster a sense of community and engagement among students through extracurricular activities, clubs, and events
- Budget Management: Develop and manage the budget for the dental school, allocating resources effectively to support academic and administrative needs if assigned.
- Facilities and Resources: Ensure that facilities, laboratories, and equipment meet the educational needs of students and faculty
- Accreditation and Compliance: Ensure compliance with accreditation standards and regulations set forth by dental boards and accrediting bodies
- Community Engagement: Represent the dental school within the larger university community and engage with external stakeholders, including alumni, donors, and industry partners
- Advocacy: Advocate for the dental school s interests at local, state, and national levels, influencing policy and promoting the value of dental education and research
- Research Support: Encourage and support faculty research initiatives, promoting a culture of scholarly inquiry and innovation within the dental school
- Technology Integration: Explore and integrate new technologies and methodologies into dental education and practice to enhance learning outcomes and clinical training
- Strategic Vision: Develop and implement strategic plans to advance the mission and goals of the dental school, ensuring long-term sustainability and growth
- Fundraising: Collaborate with development officers to secure funding through grants, donations, and partnerships to support research, facilities, and student scholarships
- Perform additional responsibilities as required to support the mission, goals, and needs of the department and institution
