Associate Dean of Instruction

Job Description

The collaborative administration and support for programs assigned to the Dean of Instruction. The associate dean will be the primary contact and supervision of faculty and programs offered in the evening, community connections P-3 and K-12 partners, and the college representative for state councils and workgroups.

Duties and Responsibilities

Instructional Leadership

  • Supervise and evaluate faculty, and staff, in assigned areas of responsibility and in adherence to negotiated agreements, applicable state and federal laws, accrediting bodies, and college policies and procedures.
  • Provide support and supervision and complete observations for faculty teaching evening courses in assigned areas of study.
  • Assist in the recruiting, hiring, and orienting of staff and faculty in areas of responsibility; facilitate professional development opportunities for faculty in coordination with the Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) committee and campus-wide training efforts.
  • Collaborate with faculty to plan, develop, support, and implement curriculum and instructional activities, including assessment; provide curricular oversight and ensure accurate scheduling of upper division courses, in conjunction with program faculty in the assigned areas of study.
  • Monitor and respond to course enrollment and enrollment trends.
  • Collaborate with faculty and campus leadership to implement college initiatives that promote student success and improve access for historically underserved populations.
  • Promote faculty/staff input and communication as part of the decision-making process including course scheduling and program planning.
  • Collaborate with Dean(s) of Instruction to meet instructional goals and enhance communication among areas.
  • Communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally.

Budget

  • Manage financial resources by provide oversight of budget expenditures in assigned areas; collaborate with college administration and stakeholders to equitably utilize college resources; coordinate the acquisition of equipment and supplies for assigned areas as needed.

Outreach

  • Collaborate with K-12 and P-3 partners to place teacher education students in practicum, field experience, and student teaching to meet lower and upper division course requirements.
  • Support mentoring teachers with clock hour process.
  • Facilitate information sessions and orientations for specific programs.

Grants & Compliance

  • Assist the Dean of Instruction, Career and Technical Education with grant development and submittals including but not limited to Carl Perkins.
  • Oversee compliance with Washington state and national standards and laws for the assigned program areas as well as any specialized accreditation and certification, maintenance of accurate records and reports in accordance with guidelines for education programs.
  • Adhere to college policies and accreditation standards; coordinate with faculty to assess, evaluate, and respond to student and program needs to facilitate student success and achieve outcomes.
  • Serve on state councils as applicable to areas of responsibility including the Baccalaureate Leadership Council (BLC) staffed by the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges (SBCTC).
  • Attend Washington Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (WACTE) meetings and collaborate with the Professional Educators Standards Board (PESB) to remain current in certification requirements and standards for teacher certification.
  • Coordinate and facilitate quarterly PEAB meetings for the BAS in Teacher Education program. Replace board members as needed to ensure representation matches PESB requirements.
  • Serve actively as a member of Instructional Leadership Team, and college councils, taskforces, and relevant committees as assigned.
  • Participate and oversee advisory committees in area of responsibility; remain current with the latest developments and promising practices in designated fields. Actively participate with industry to ensure instructional programs are current with industry standards, practices and trends and assist in the development of new programs in response to emerging industries.
  • Work with the campus leadership including the director of college relations to ensure that public information regarding applicable bachelor's programs is accurate, clear, consistent, and accessible; market programs as needed.
  • Complete needs assessments and create proposals to develop and launch new programs to meet the employment needs of local industries.
  • Complete special projects and other duties as assigned by the Dean of Instruction, Career and Technical Education.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in education, business, or healthcare plus five years of relevant administrative and/or supervisory experience ORequivalent education and experience.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office to create and edit documents, spreadsheets, and presentations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in education, business, or healthcare.
  • Experience with Washington State teacher certification requirements.
  • Experience with data collection and analysis.
  • College level teaching experience.
  • Experience evaluating instructional practices.
  • Demonstrated experience or participation with persons from historically minoritized backgrounds such as sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socio-economic, physical and learning abilities, and a commitment to an inclusive and equitable working/learning environment.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail as well as previous experience maintaining accurate records, managing multiple tasks, planning, and organizing work in order to meet changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, work collaboratively, and practice consensus-based decision making.

Physical Requirements

  • Most work is performed in office settings on a college campus.
  • Daily job assignments may require day, evening, weekend or holiday hours.

Conditions of Employment

This is a twelve (12) month per year, full-time administrative exempt position. The salary is $94,754 - $94,754 annually depending on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. The state of Washington provides a comprehensive benefits package for state employees. The position may participate in the TIAA/CREF retirement system.

Compensation

Annual Salary: $94,754 - $94,754 (DOQ/DOE)
