POSITION SUMMARY:

The Associate Director of the Digital Storytelling Lab will co-lead the Digital Storytelling Lab alongside the Executive Director and Director of Programs. The Associate Director will lead the media production and development aspects of the Lab, as well as play a key role in the expansion beyond Duquesne into Pittsburgh and across the country. This person will help manage the student fellows program and work closely with Duquesne students and other young people throughout the grant.

This position is a 5-year grant funded position, through a grant received from the Lilly Foundation. This is a full time, in-person position at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, with multiple days per week in the office.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Helps with day-to-day administrative duties for the Digital Storytelling Lab, including helping to manage student fellows program, workshop development, subgrant programs, and community engagement.
  • Works with students directly to develop their own personal narratives at the intersection of faith and technology.
  • Helps to develop and leads workshops and potentially courses for faculty, staff, students, and the public.
  • Works with Executive Director and Director of Programs in the overall planning and implementation of the Digital Storytelling Lab, as well as support for the central mission and vision of the Grefenstette Center for Ethics.
  • Travel is required for this position (5%).
  • Completes other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervises student employees only.

REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Theology, Communication, English, Media Studies or related field from an accredited institution.
  • Current driver’s license in good standing.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree in Theology, Communication, English, Media Studies or related field from an accredited institution.
  • Preferred candidate would have at least 1-3 years developing and producing media related to one or more of the following: perspectives of young people, faith stories, Christian theology, or technology. Preference would also be for candidates with experience teaching and/or providing workshops at the college level.

Alternately, the successful candidate may possess any equivalent combination of experience and training, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the essential job functions. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:

This person will co-lead a new grant-funded initiative of the Grefenstette Center known as the Digital Storytelling Lab. Skills required will be the ability to develop, tell, and produce novel stories at the intersection of faith and technology. Candidate should also be comfortable working collaboratively in a team, planning and managing programs, and working directly with students and other community members in developing authentic personal narratives.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the University Community.
