Overview

Gallatin's Science, Technology, Arts, and Creativity (STAC) program brings interdisciplinary ideas to life. We're seeking a creative, hands-on administrator to manage our Maker Space (746STAC) and support innovative, project-based, and cross-disciplinary learning. Our current space houses sewing machines, 3D printers, an embroidery machine, a vinyl cutter, and a range of small hand tools and we're excited to be expanding into a larger space soon.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and oversee programs and workshops that foster skill-building in science, technology, arts, fashion, and the humanities.
  • Collaborate with faculty and students to create initiatives that link STEM and non-STEM fields, including fashion, arts, and design.
  • Manage daily operations, ensure safety compliance, and foster an inclusive, welcoming environment.
  • Organize events, residencies, showcases, and experiential learning opportunities that highlight the projects created in the makerspace.
  • Hire, train, and mentor student staff to support peer learning.
  • Support the Gallatin Wetlab on Governors Island

Responsibilities

Required Education:

Master's Level degree in an Interdisciplinary science field

Preferred Education:

Ph.D. in an interdisciplinary STEM field preferred.

Required Experience:

5+ years relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Experience:

3+ years of Experience managing maker spaces, and student technical instructors working with interdisciplinary and experiential learning teams. Experience developing experiential learning programs that foster community and collaboration across diverse groups. Able to create and facilitate workshops relevant to skill building in a makerspace environment.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

Expertise across the STEM/humanities/art/fashion/entrepreneurship boundary. Experience with a wide variety of fabrication skills, including 3d printing, sewing, embroidery, electronics, woodworking, and other design and prototyping equipment. Highly collaborative in a team environment. Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with a high attention-to-detail.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

Proficient in MS Office Applications, Google Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, Rhino, and other common design software and tools. Experience in data analytics and data visualization a plus.

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $80,000.00 to USD $100,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
