Position Highlights
The University of Arizona seeks to fill an Associate General Counsel position in the Office of the General Counsel (OGC) that will work in a diverse range of practice areas common to higher education institutions, including but not limited to student affairs, Title IX, FERPA, employment, and compliance. This position also will involve litigation strategy and oversight, and working with outside counsel and the Arizona Attorney General's Office.
The successful candidate also may have responsibilities in a diverse range of additional practice areas such as governance, public procurement, public records, privacy, student affairs, civil rights, research, accreditation, risk management, law enforcement, real estate, public finance, administrative law, threat assessment and student health and safety, hearings, policy and procedure development, and information technology matters.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Advise and represent University administrators on a variety of matters including: employment issues; student-related issues, policies, and procedures; employee and student conduct hearings; Title IX; constitutional and legislative matters; shared governance; administrative law matters; FERPA and public records; compliance; and crisis management.
- Work with other attorneys and the support team in the Office of the General Counsel, as well as University administrators, faculty, and staff, and interact with outside counsel, other governmental offices, University-affiliated organizations, and the Arizona Board of Regents.
- Foster relationships with University clients and outside counsel to support partnerships with the Office of the General Counsel.
- Represent the University of Arizona within Arizona and, as needed, outside the state. Responsibilities will involve travel within the state of Arizona and may involve travel outside the state.
- Engage in professional development to maintain and improve knowledge in legal practice and knowledge through professional development.
- Attend and participate in conferences and workshops as appropriate and as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
- J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school.
- Admitted to practice law in the State of Arizona, in good standing, or be eligible and admitted to practice law in the State of Arizona within one year of employment.
- A minimum of three years of substantial and progressively responsible legal experience practicing law.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5 years of substantial and progressively responsible legal experience practicing law.
- Specific experience representing large research academic institutions, colleges, or universities.
- Litigation experience, including discovery, motion practice, and trial work.
- Experience and knowledge of Arizona laws, rules, and regulations, including public procurement, public records, and public employment in Arizona.
