About the Role:

Curtin University is seeking to appoint a full-time Associate Professor to the role of Discipline Lead, Oral Health Therapy within the School of Nursing. This is a pivotal academic leadership position responsible for shaping the future direction of the Oral Health Therapy program and strengthening its reputation, relevance, and impact.

The role will lead the review and revitalisation of the Oral Health Therapy course, working closely with the Course Coordinator to enhance curriculum design, delivery, and student outcomes. A key focus will be supporting accreditation requirements with the Australian Dental Council, ensuring ongoing compliance and excellence in program standards.

The Discipline Lead will also play a central role in growing and sustaining strong industry partnerships, expanding placement opportunities for students, and enhancing graduate employability. In addition, the position contributes to academic leadership across the discipline, including mentorship and supervision of Higher Degree by Research (HDR) students, and active involvement in initiatives that improve student engagement, experience, and retention.

This position is offered as Teaching and Research. Teaching Academic pathways may be considered for candidates with a strong clinical education background and a demonstrated iSoLT track record.

This teaching and research position is full time, permanent, with a salary range between $173,635 - $191,099 (ALD), plus 17% superannuation.

Who we are looking for (selection criteria):

  1. A doctoral qualification in relevant discipline.
  2. Registered as an Oral Health Therapist with AHPRA registration.
  3. Deliver high quality and innovative teaching to undergraduate and postgraduate students across a range of modes and levels.
  4. Lead major curriculum initiatives and pedagogical developments, including review and renewal of course content and structure.
  5. Provide leadership of course and teaching initiatives in collaboration with Course Coordinators and academic teams.
  6. Foster a culture of teaching excellence and continuous reflective improvement in teaching practice.
  7. Display a commitment to the discipline through the scholarly development and delivery of high-quality educational programs.
  8. Undertake nationally and internationally competitive research and contribute to the discipline’s scholarly profile.
  9. Undertake principal supervision of honours, masters, and doctoral (HDR) students.
  10. Contribute significantly to academic leadership, service, and collegiality within the University.
  11. Provide leadership in external engagement and industry partnerships relevant to Oral Health Therapy and clinical placement development.
  12. Mentor and support less experienced staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing academic environment.

Role Requirements:

  1. As this is a continuing (permanent) role, you will require permanent work rights in Australia to be considered

  3. This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check
