About the school

The National School of Arts and Sciences is one of two national schools in the Faculty of Arts, Sciences, Law and Business. The National School is based on two distinct campuses in Fremantle and Sydney. The School of Arts and Sciences delivers a practical, ethical and industry-focused education in diverse areas of study such as the liberal arts, communications and media, counselling and science, with a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs on offer.

About the role

This position is responsible for coordinating and delivering Psychology programs and working with the National Head of School and Faculty Board to oversee professional accreditation processes. The programs include the Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, Psychology Honours, and the Master of Professional Psychology, accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) as pathways to psychologist registration. Applied Psychology is also offered as a Major within the Bachelor of Arts and as part of several double degrees, complementing disciplines such as Behavioural Science and Counselling studies to prepare students for careers in teaching, business, community development, government, non-government and human resources.

The role provides national leadership in program delivery and review across the Broadway and Fremantle campuses, overseeing staff within the discipline and contributing to curriculum assurance and quality monitoring. The successful candidate will maintain an active research profile, mentor early-career staff, integrate contemporary developments into the curriculum, and collaborate on operational matters such as timetabling, student experience, and sessional staff planning. Additionally, the position will strengthen partnerships and develop new opportunities with external stakeholders to support practicum placements, teaching, learning, and research outcomes. Psychology is part of a broader suite of disciplines aligned with an ecology of care, including behavioural science, counselling, social work, and allied health fields across the university.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality, student-focused learning and teaching to undergraduate and postgraduate psychology students across various formats (online and on-campus).
• Lead curriculum design, innovation, and mapping to ensure alignment with professional standards, learning outcomes, and graduate attributes.
• Oversee program amendments and manage formal accreditation processes on behalf of the University.
• Conduct impactful, nationally competitive research in psychology and maintain professional engagement.
• Supervise higher degree research students and provide mentorship to early-career academic staff.

Qualifications, skills & experience

• PhD (research or professional doctorate) in Psychology, required for teaching at Master’s (AQF 9) level and above; exceptional professional experience may be considered for equivalence under APAC and TEQSA requirements.
• Completion of an APAC-accredited program or equivalent overseas qualifications recognized by APAC, along with APAC registration.
• Registration as a psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia; Board-approved supervisor status and experience in clinical supervision are advantageous.
• Strong knowledge of APAC accreditation standards and ability to apply them in curriculum development and implementation; experience working with APAC on program integration and accreditation processes.
• Proven ability to deliver high-quality teaching and learning in APAC-accredited Psychology programs, lead curriculum development, and maintain compliance with professional standards.
• Demonstrated research track record in psychology, ability to supervise Honours, HDR, and PhD students, and commitment to cultural awareness and safety, including engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.
