Associate Professor of Empire Innovation, Microbiology, Virology (Tenure-Track)

The Department of Microbiology and Immunology in the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the areas of virology and microbial pathogenesis. Applicants working in virology, including molecular virology, viral pathogenesis, emerging viral pathogens, and novel models of viral disease, are particularly encouraged to apply. The position will be part of a State University of New York Empire Innovation Program that seeks to build cross-disciplinary collaborations to advance disease prevention and treatment. Applicants incorporating antiviral or antimicrobial drug development or novel therapeutic approaches against infections are particularly encouraged to apply. Successful applicants are expected to establish and maintain an extramurally funded research program and actively participate in the teaching and service missions within the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Stony Brook University. The Department is home to two graduate programs and two NIH-funded training grants, providing opportunities for graduate student and postdoctoral fellow mentoring and support. Stony Brook University maintains state-of-the-art core facilities that support areas including microscopy and animal imaging, flow cytometry, RNA and single cell sequencing, genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, bioinformatics, and animal maintenance. A state-of-the art Laboratory for Comparative Medicine provides facilities for BSL3 and animal BSL3 research. The dynamic intellectual environment includes the Stony Brook University tertiary care Hospital and Cancer Center, nearby Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, a VA Hospital and Research Center, and Brookhaven National Laboratory research facilities.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: Applicants must have a PhD or MD degree (or foreign equivalent) and three years or more of experience at the Assistant Professor level or equivalent experience as a project leader.

Preferred Qualifications: Preferred areas of research interest are those that complement and expand existing departmental strengths in virology, microbiology, and infectious diseases, and whose research incorporates translational antimicrobial or antiviral therapeutic approaches.
