Description
The Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation seeks an Associate Professor, with expertise in clinical and preclinical musculoskeletal research to advance the research goals of the department. The incumbent will be expected to collaborate with current faculty, as well as mentor junior faculty, fellows, residents, graduate students, and undergraduate students. Furthermore, the incumbent will be expected to develop an independent extramurally funded research portfolio.
Lead a broad research portfolio encompassing orthopaedic surgery, biomedical engineering, and bone biology
Conduct studies to better understand and mitigate the adverse effects of pharmaceuticals on skeletal development and fracture healing
Perform research in the field of skeletal biomechanics utilizing synthetic models, cadaveric tissue, explanted human tissues, and animals
Direct clinical studies of orthopaedics outcomes utilizing clinical, radiographic, and patient reported outcomes
Manage diverse teams of clinical research coordinators, technicians, and students
Disseminate research results through publications in journals and presentations in conferences
Secure external (federal, state, industry, foundation) funding to support collaborative and independent research activities
Other duties as required
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- PhD in biomedical engineering and/or medicine research
- Minimum of 20 years of post-graduate experience
- Experience with preclinical orthopaedic models
- Proficiently with statistical software packages (e.g., SPSS, Prism)
- A strong publication track record
Preferred Qualifications
- Excellent interpersonal skills and track record of effective team collaboration
- Teaching experience in graduate and undergraduate courses
- History of graduate student training (e.g., advising, qualify exams, thesis committees)
- Experience in research and analysis of rodent gait
- Familiarity with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) guidelines
