The Medical College of Georgia, Department of Pediatrics, at Augusta University is currently seeking a pediatric cardiac intensivist faculty member at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, who will also hold an administrative post as the Medical Director of the Pediatric Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit. Successful candidates should possess excellent clinical skills, and strong interests in teaching and research. Board certification in pediatric critical care with substantial pediatric cardiac critical care experience is required. This position does not meet the requirements to be on a tenure track.
Responsibilities
Patient Care - 87%
The successful candidate would join a team of critical care physicians and cardiothoracic surgeons to provide care for patients in the Pediatric Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (Level 1 PICU) at the Wellstar Children's Hospital of Georgia (affiliated with the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University). In this dedicated unit, a team of pediatric intensive care physicians work closely with a specialized team to provide around the clock care for our patients with both congenital and acquired heart disease. As a member of the leadership team, this candidate will be an integral part of the Wellstar Children's Hospital of Georgia Pediatric Heart Center and Congenital Heart Program, which includes cardiology, electrophysiology, interventional cardiology, and cardiac surgery services.
Responsibilities include caring for the full spectrum of cardiothoracic surgery patients. Importantly, the Director will provide leadership for the entire unit and will interface with hospital leadership to advance the directives of the CVICU. As a member of the Division of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine, the applicant should possess a strong interest in the education of students, residents, and fellows as well as an interest in clinical, outcomes, or translational research.
Teaching/Instruction - 13%
- Provide education and training to fellows, residents, medical students and healthcare professionals in pediatrics which includes but is not limited to: clinical supervision, consultation and didactics.
- Support existing Pediatric Critical Care fellowship program.
- Achieve and maintain teaching evaluation scores at or above the department mean.
- Attend 50% or more weekly pediatric Grand Rounds presentations and monthly faculty meetings.
Required Qualifications
Competitive candidates who are MD, DO or equivalent will have completed an ACGME-approved residency program in pediatrics and a fellowship in Pediatric Critical Care with substantial pediatric cardiac critical care experience is required. Candidate must be board certified in pediatric critical care. Candidate must be eligible for state of Georgia Medical License, have a federal DEA and be CPR certified.
Associate Professor- Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
Professor- Senior level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
- Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
- Evidence of ability as a teacher;
- Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
- Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
- Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.
The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.
Associate Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements.The salary is subject to availability of funds.
