Job Overview

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Cincinnati is searching for two tenure-track faculty members in speech-language pathology who will contribute to the department’s research, teaching, and service missions. These are 9-month positions beginning in Fall of 2026 with rank (assistant, associate, full professor) commensurate with experience.

The Department seeks faculty with expertise in the following areas of speech-language pathology: cognitive disorders, speech/acoustics, swallowing, and/or voice. We also welcome applicants with expertise in transdisciplinary areas relevant to speech, language, and hearing sciences, including: disability policy and rights, artificial intelligence, community-based participatory research, and/or translational research/implementation science.

Essential Functions

  • Faculty will be responsible for advancing an independent research agenda, teaching in relevant content areas, and providing service to the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, the College of Allied Health Sciences, the University of Cincinnati, the broader community, and the field of speech-language pathology.
  • Research activity includes but is not limited to: pursuit of external funding, student mentorship, and the dissemination of research findings. Teaching and service activities include but are not limited to: course development, primary instruction of in-person or online courses, participation in student recruitment/admission/retention, participation in program committee work, and other activities as assigned by the department chair.

Faculty in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders benefit from rich collaborative environments both within and beyond the University of Cincinnati. Ongoing partnerships include local leaders in healthcare and education, such as Cincinnati Public Schools, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, the Cincinnati Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and UC Health. Within the university, faculty have opportunities to collaborate across colleges and research centers, including the College of Medicine and its affiliated laboratories such as the Dysphagia Rehabilitation Laboratory, the Translational NeuroTrauma (TNT) Lab, and the UC Neurorecovery Laboratory. Interdisciplinary partnerships are also supported with faculty in the College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services, including through the Arlitt Child and Family Research and Education Center. These diverse collaborative networks support both research and clinical innovation across the lifespan.

Minimum Requirements

  • PhD in Communication Sciences and Disorders or related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in one or more areas of specialization in speech-language pathology.
  • Record of scholarly works, including peer-reviewed publications and presentations.
  • Experience teaching or assisting with teaching in a higher education setting.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including problem solving, counseling, conflict management, and follow-through.
  • Interest in and ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstration of an independent line of research.
  • Commitment to fostering innovation, impact, and a positive working/learning environment for everyone.
  • Current knowledge and skills using technology, including educational learning management systems.

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • Demonstrated clinical expertise in one of the specializations noted above.
  • History of seeking or securing external funding.
  • Current clinical credential in speech-language pathology (i.e., CCC-SLP) or eligibility for credential.
  • Current license to practice as a speech-language pathologist in Ohio or eligibility for licensure.
  • Active in professional activities at the local, state, and/or national levels.
  • Demonstrated mentorship experience.
