Asst Vice President or Assoc Vice Provost for Institutional Effectiveness
Job Summary
Eastern Washington University and the Office of the Provost seek applications for the position of Assistant Vice President or Associate Vice Provost for Institutional Effectiveness.
The Assistant Vice President or Associate Vice Provost for Institutional Effectiveness serves as a senior leader within the Academic Affairs division, responsible for driving the academic data, design, coordination, and successful implementation of key initiatives that advance Eastern Washington University’s (EWU) Strategic Plan, Strategic Enrollment Management (SEM) Plan, and institution-wide priorities.
Reporting directly to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the position provides high-level project management leadership, facilitates cross-divisional collaboration, and leverages data to improve academic operations, student success outcomes, and institutional effectiveness. The role is instrumental in ensuring strategic initiatives are executed with clarity, accountability, and alignment to university policies, accreditation standards, and fiscal parameters. This individual is also responsible for overseeing institutional accreditation, assessment, and serving as the Accreditation Liaison Officer.
Required Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications (Both Hiring Pathways)
- Master’s degree required; Doctorate preferred.
- Five or more years of progressive leadership experience in higher education involving strategic planning, academic operations, student-success initiatives, or institutional effectiveness.
- Demonstrated experience leading large-scale, cross-functional projects with measurable outcomes.
- Strong analytical abilities, including experience with data interpretation, dashboarding, and data-supported decision making.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex, multi-priority workloads in a dynamic environment.
- Advanced knowledge of higher education structures, policy development, accreditation expectations, and shared governance.
- Demonstrated ability to apply a responsive and flexible approach that is supportive of the needs including universal access of our students, faculty, staff and the public.
Additional Qualifications for Associate Vice Provost Track (Faculty-Eligible)
- Record of scholarly achievement and teaching that has earned tenure at a similar institution and qualifies the candidate for tenure in an academic department at EWU.
- Demonstrated experience with faculty governance, curriculum oversight, workload policies, and academic decision-making processes.
- Experience mentoring faculty, participating in program review, and contributing to accreditation activities preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in higher education leadership, public policy, business administration, organizational leadership, or related field.
- Formal training or certification in project management (e.g., PMP, Lean/Six Sigma).
- Experience with strategic enrollment planning, academic program development, or student-success analytics.
- Demonstrated work with grants, externally funded initiatives, or strategic resource development.
- Working knowledge of business intelligence (BI) and data visualization software platforms like Tableau, Power BI, and similar.
- Experience serving as an Accreditation Liaison Officer (ALO)
Job Duties
Strategic Leadership & Institutional Alignment
- Serve as a senior leader and strategic partner to the Provost and Deans on academic initiatives that support the university’s mission and priorities.
- Lead the planning and execution of cross-functional academic initiatives and enterprise-level projects associated with the strategic plan and SEM plan.
- Ensure alignment of academic strategies with accreditation requirements, shared governance practices, and institutional policies.
Project & Portfolio Management
- Oversee a structured portfolio of strategic academic projects, including data and design, timeline development, resource allocation, milestone tracking, and compliance.
- Implement project management methodologies, tools, and documentation standards to support efficiency and transparency across initiatives.
- Coordinate contributions from academic colleges, service units, and administrative partners to maintain momentum and meet deliverables.
Salary Information
The salary for this position is $117,972 (minimum) up to $150,000. Where the hired candidate will begin within this range is dependent on education, experience, and skills. In addition to salary, the university offers a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, life and disability insurance and retirement.
