Position Summary
The Department of Kinesiology at Michigan State University invites applications for a fixed-term faculty position (non-tenure-track) at the Assistant Professor rank, slated to begin in August 2025. This hire represents a significant strategic investment by Michigan State University to advance the Department of Kinesiology. The initiative is in response to the department's consistent and robust growth over the last thirty years. With nearly 1,500 undergraduate enrollees, the Kinesiology major has evolved into one of the most popular academic programs at Michigan State University and is highly sought-after nationwide. This position is covered by the UNTF collective bargaining agreement between the Union of Non-Tenure-Track Faculty (UNTF) and Michigan State University. We are seeking qualified candidates with expertise in exercise physiology. Instructional responsibilities will include introductory and advanced undergraduate lectures and laboratories, and potentially graduate-level lectures, in exercise physiology and human anatomy.
Duties
- Teach and develop curriculum for undergraduate and graduate courses aligned with expertise and departmental needs.
- Advise, mentor, and help recruit students.
- Provide service relevant to the department, college, university, profession, and community at large.
- Contribute to intellectual activities within the department.
Required Degree
Doctorate -Kinesiology or related field
Minimum Requirements
Doctorate in kinesiology or related field (Evidence that the doctoral degree has been completed prior to the start of the appointment).

- Outstanding record in exercise physiology.
- Demonstrated commitment to high-caliber teaching and curriculum development.
- Demonstrated record of formal and/or informal mentorship of students.
- Demonstrated record of service to the institution, the broader profession, and/or the community.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to intellectual activities of the department.
- Demonstrated commitment to building an equitable, diverse, and inclusive scholarly and instructional environment.

- A curriculum vitae, including any teaching and/or mentoring roles, other contributions to the academic community, and any efforts in public outreach.
- A teaching and mentoring statement (no more than 2 pages) describing the applicant's experience, philosophy, and future goals in instruction and mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students. All three individuals should be able to attest to the applicant's professional integrity and collegiality, in addition to the applicant's instructional experience and ability. Written letters of recommendation will be requested for candidates who are invited for interviews.
