Athletics Compliance Specialist

The Student Financial Services Office (SFS) is seeking an Athletic Compliance Specialist, reporting to the Compliance Manager. The Financial Aid Athletics Compliance Specialist serves as the designated financial aid liaison to the Department of Athletics, Community and Campus Recreation (DACCR). This crucial role has a direct impact on UD student athlete success by prioritizing student athlete financial aid processing while ensuring accurate distribution of approximately $13 million in athletic-related aid in compliance with NCAA, Colonial Athletic Conference, State of Delaware and institutional aid programs. To achieve this, the Financial Aid Athletics Compliance Specialist is actively engaged with student athletes and coaching/administrative staffs to provide personalized service.

The Financial Aid Athletics Compliance Specialist develops, implements, monitors and assesses a strategic plan for all aspects of the department's student-athlete financial aid processes, including aid allocation, equivalency computation, the monitoring of all institutional and outside aid, and budget management. Additionally, the Financial Aid Athletics Compliance Specialist performs the financial award process, needs analysis, financial aid verification, and reporting disbursed aid to appropriate parties. This position will be responsible for applying and monitoring policies and procedures to ensure department and university compliance with NCAA and Conference rules and regulations and to evaluate department issues for compliance. Finally, the Financial Aid Compliance Athletics Specialist will be responsible for obtaining proper guidance or approval from Athletics Compliance, prior to participating in select activities, as defined by NCAA bylaws or institutional policies.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with DACCR and the Compliance team in SFS to coordinate athletic scholarship funding for prospective and enrolled student-athletes.
  • Shared responsibility for communication with prospective and enrolled student-athletes, parents/guardians, coaching staff regarding financial aid eligibility.
  • Serve as department liaison with prospective and enrolled student-athletes and parents/guardians regarding institutional scholarships, outside scholarships, missing or incomplete documents, and other financial aid eligibility requirements.
  • Monitor compliance of receipt of athletically related aid, institutional funding, and all other funds in accordance with NCAA Bylaws and Federal regulations for student-athletes.
  • Work collaboratively with athletics compliance staff to ensure accuracy of reports, certifications of countable aid, and calculations of team and individual aid limits.
  • Work with counterparts in SFS for sharing best practices, developing and implementing procedures and forms.
  • Monitor new, changed or deleted federal and NCAA regulations and their impact to financial aid offices and students, with emphasis on student-athletes. Coordinate with SFS compliance team on other financial aid programs – Title IV, state aid, and institutional policies/procedures for aid administration.
  • Attend regular training in SFS and NCAA administration to stay abreast of compliance regulations as they pertain to federal, state and institutional aid.
  • Design and present educational programming for student-athletes regarding financial literacy, campus financial aid policies and procedures, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree and two years of relevant work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of one year experience working with NCAA athletic aid specifically in a NCAA Division I program.
  • Ability to effectively communicate financial policies, procedures and NCAA bylaws regarding student-athlete finances.
  • ARMS web based software experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of, or ability and willingness to learn federal, state and institutional regulations pertaining to student aid programs.
  • Ability to develop a good working knowledge of University and State Business policies.
  • Ability to develop a good working knowledge of UD and a good working knowledge of UD compliance policies and procedures.
  • Strong organization skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects at once and have the ability to complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision at times.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, and public presentation skills.
  • Ability to work with and maintain confidential material.
