Athletics - Full Time Assistant Football Coach/Defensive Coordinator

Job Description:
Position Summary: The Defensive Coordinator is responsible for assisting the Head Football Coach in recruiting, training, and coaching members of the Hope College Football team. The Defensive Coordinator is required to abide by the rules and regulations established by Hope College, the MIAA, and NCAA. The Defensive Coordinator is required to pass the NCAA coaching exam with an 80% or better score. This is a full-time, 12-month (.93 FTE) benefit eligible position that offers some flexibility in schedule throughout the year.
Primary Responsibilities:
1. Coaching
1. Serve as defensive coordinator for the Hope College football program
2. Weekly game and practice planning
3. Work with and oversee the defensive staff to develop opponent film breakdown and scouting reports.
4. Potentially coach an individual position
2. Recruiting
1. Assist with recruitment of high school and transfers, including travelling to games and events, school visits, phone calls, follow-up correspondence and data base management
2. Assist with on-campus and game day visits
3. Game Day Management
1. Assist with coordination of statistics and film crew for home and away games (as needed)
4. Office Operations
1. Assist in travel planning
2. Assist in pre-season camp logistics
5. Student-Athlete Mentoring
1. Develop positive relationships with student-athletes
2. Help coordinate team Bible studies
6. Continuing Education
1. Attend professional development seminars and workshops
7. Other duties as assigned by the Head Football Coach.
8. Represent Hope College and the football program in a professional manner.
Secondary Responsibilities:
* Assisting with athletic event management during winter and spring sport seasons as assigned by the co-Athletic Directors or Department Chair (not to exceed 15% of total workload responsibilities).
Summer Responsibilities:
* Summer Camps – assist with the Hope Football Camp and work other college camps. Remunerations will be from the respective camps, not Hope College.
Performance Evaluation:
The Defensive Coordinator will report directly to the Head Football Coach and is a member of the Athletics Department. The Director of Athletics, in conjunction with the Head Football Coach, will conduct the annual evaluation of the Assistant Football Coach/Defensive Coordinator.
Qualifications:
* Bachelors degree required, Masters degree preferred
* Playing experience required
* Prior coaching experience preferred
* Must believe in and adhere to the mission and beliefs of Hope College, the Kinesiology Department, and Hope College Athletics.
