College Business Hours are 8:30am - 4:30pm. Hours of work for faculty vary by course schedule and additional hours may be needed.

Working Conditions

  1. Office work environment, classroom environment.
  2. Automotive Laboratory/Shop atmosphere. a) Extremely hot and cold surfaces b) Moderate to heavy dust c) Various tools, lifts, machinery required to service automobiles
  3. Some travel is required off-campus meetings, trainings, workshops, and seminars.

Physical Duties

a) Periods of light duty for classroom or office work; with periods of medium or heavy-duty during labs demonstrating skills. b) Wearing PPE and safety glasses. c) Lifting up to 50 lbs. d) Performing transitional movements including, but not limited to: standing, walking, balancing, pushing & pulling, climbing, working on ladders, crawling, crouching, stooping, kneeling, reaching, handling, grasping and/or a combination of these activities. e) Performing repetitive motions. f) Ability to safely operate equipment including, but not limited to: 1) Various machinery, 2) Hand tools, 3) Power tools, 4) Water and water tools (i.e., power washers, floor scrubbers.) 5) Vehicles 6) Compressed air 7) Chemicals 8) Welding equipment

Basic Statement of Responsibilities

Teach automotive technology courses as required in lecture and lab settings. The primary site is the Cumberland, Md. Campus; however, some activities may require travel outside of Cumberland. Activities include but not limited to curriculum development, marketing, recruitment, advising, and professional development; occasional evening and weekend activities.

Essential Functions

Teaching automotive courses as assigned by the program director. Courses include, but not limited to Electricity I, Electricity Il, Steering and Suspension, Ignition Systems, Transmissions, and Engine Testing Engines I & II, Fuel Systems, Related, Auto Body, Diesel, and Brakes. The Classroom/Laboratory teacher is responsible for the tasks and duties as described in this job description.

Maintain tool room, tools, and any equipment as necessary. Actively participate in record keeping and maintaining ASE files and certification. Attend Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Instructor Training Conference annually, in late July. Obtain 20 hours additional training annually. Serve as secretary for the Automotive Technology Program Advisory Committee. Represent the College and the department at private and public events. Maintain all supplies/materials/consumables and the records for such, along with ordering and re-stocking.

  1. Design and implement curriculum that aligns with student learning outcomes, program learning outcomes, and general education learning outcomes and assist in departmental assessment reporting.
  2. Participate in department/division meetings, committees, and other activities.
  3. Familiar with and maintain behavior and actions consistent with college policies.
  4. Collaborate and cooperate in the fulfillment of the goals of the department/division and the College in order to contribute as a valued member of the department/division.
  5. Maintain timely communication with Program Director.
  6. Accept responsibilities and obligations as a professional educator. The primary duty of faculty is the instruction of assigned classes. This duty must take precedence over all other activities.
  7. Teach a minimum load of 30 credits per academic year with the exception of designated release and/or reassignment time as defined by the faculty release and reassignment policy.
  8. Work off-schedule hours, when necessary, for the benefit of their students or department: e.g., evening and/or weekend hours instructing classes, grading assignments, travel between campuses or recruitment activities.
  9. Be accessible to students in a variety of days, times, and modalities consistent with student needs. Faculty will maintain published office hours for a minimum of 3 hours per week over multiple days consistent with course modalities and campus location or instructional site.
  10. Attend winter and spring commencement/graduation ceremonies.
  11. Perform other reasonable duties as assigned by supervisor.

Education, Experience, and Specialized Skills

  • Associates Degree in Automotive Technology required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related automotive field preferred.
  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Master Certification, ASE Gl, Ll and EPA Section 609 preferred. If not certified, MUST achieve and maintain those certifications, and any that may be required in the future as determined by the college and/or ASE.
  • Teaching experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Must be computer literate, with skills including but not limited to Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook and the College’s Learning Management System.
