Awards Officer

This is a full-time fixed-term position through to August 2026 with salary in the range $95,361 - $102,302 (HEW 6), plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%.

Support the end-to-end post-award lifecycle for UQ's research grants, providing expert contract review and specialised project establishment to drive research success.

Based at our conveniently located Toowong office (occasional travel to other UQ campuses will be required).

About This Opportunity

The Awards Officer provides a specialised service in the acceptance, establishment, and management of research grants. This role is responsible for supporting all aspects of the post-award lifecycle, ensuring that all grant agreements are executed efficiently and remain compliant with both University and funding provider policies. You will work as a key liaison between researchers, central functions, and external partners to accelerate research activation and delivery.

Key responsibilities will include:

Post-Award Lifecycle Management

  • Facilitate the efficient establishment of research projects, including the preparation and execution of grant agreements, project variations, and the submission of project reports.

Contractual & Policy Advisory

  • Review the terms and conditions of standard research-related agreements to ensure alignment with UQ’s risk appetite, providing researchers with authoritative briefings on their contractual obligations.

Stakeholder & Partnership Coordination

  • Develop effective working relationships with funding providers, staff in academic divisions, internal and external stakeholders, colleagues and management to support the professional curation and proactive management of research funding and partnerships.

Operational Excellence & Problem Solving

  • Contribute to effective management of post-award workflows in a timely manner, undertake problem-solving of funding management issues to propose and implement agreed solutions.

About You

  • Relevant qualifications and experience in research administration or project management, with a high value placed on prior experience in research grant support or document administration.
  • Demonstrated expertise in drafting and reviewing complex documents, with strong data interpretation skills and the ability to apply policies within a complicated regulatory environment.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with a proven ability to negotiate, exercise diplomacy, and provide high-quality, customer-focused advice to a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Highly developed organisational skills and computer literacy, with a track record of meeting tight deadlines and managing competing priorities both independently and as part of a team.

You must maintain unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this appointment, and may be required to complete background checks including, criminal history and education checks. Employer sponsored work rights are not available for this appointment.
