About the Role

The BCN Biobank Technician will support the operation of the Breast Cancer Now Biobank at the Barts Cancer Institute. The role involves receiving, processing, auditing, and storing human tissue and fluid samples in accordance with biobank SOPs, HTA regulations, and Queen Mary policies. Key responsibilities include maintaining accurate biobank records and databases, supporting HTA audits and quality assurance activities, interrogating clinical and pathological databases, fulfilling sample requests, and preparing materials for research use.

The post holder will also assist with updating SOPs, monitoring consumables and equipment, maintaining a safe laboratory environment, and supporting defined research projects. The role is vital to ensuring compliant, efficient, and high-quality biobanking services that underpin cancer research across BCI and wider collaborative networks.

About You

For this role, you will need a BSc (or equivalent) in a relevant biological science and proven experience working in a biomedical research laboratory. You should have sound knowledge of laboratory procedures, materials, and equipment, as well as an understanding of Human Tissue Authority regulations and ethical requirements.

The Barts Cancer Institute (BCI) is a Cancer Research UK Centre of Excellence whose work aims to transform the lives of those with and at risk of cancer through innovative research in the laboratory, in patients and in populations. BCI is internationally renowned in many areas of cancer research, and it combines ground-breaking basic research with the expertise of clinicians and clinician scientists.
