Bioinformatics Research Associate
- Full time, 12 months fixed term, with potential to extend. Located at the University of Sydney, Brain and Mind Centre, Camperdown

- Base Salary $105,314 - $116,679 p.a. + 17% superannuation
About the opportunity
The School of Psychology are currently seeking a Research Associate in Bioinformatics to work as part of the new multidisciplinary Alzheimer’s and Neurodegenerative Disease team at the University of Sydney Brain and Mind Centre, led by Dr. Eleanor Drummond and Professor Sharon Naismith. This team consists of 25 senior academics with wide-ranging expertise (e.g. basic science, clinical, neuroimaging) from across the University of Sydney, who all have a research interest in Alzheimer’s disease and related neurodegeneration diseases.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
- lead collaborative projects between team academics focused on analysing and correlating omics datasets, biofluid biomarkers, imaging biomarkers, genetics, and cognitive data
- conduct data harmonization, analysis, and visualization.
As the integral team member liaising between multidisciplinary aspects of this project, you would also be responsible for project coordination and data management for the broader team.

About you

- a PhD (or near completion) in Neuroscience, or equivalent in statistics/bioinformatics (or other relevant disciplines) with a strong interest in biological research. Research experience is advantageous
- a strong track-record in neurodegenerative disease research (preferably Alzheimer’s disease)
- an understanding of molecular biology and sequencing is highly desirable
- expertise in bioinformatics and analysis of large datasets
- demonstratable knowledge and experience in data analysis programming language (e.g., R, Python)
- ability to work independently and in a multi-disciplinary team
- effective time management skills and the ability to work on several projects in parallel
- experience in project coordination is highly desirable
- strong communication skills, written and oral, and an ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical researchers.
