Biological Sciences Division Pathways to Independence Instructor Appointments BSD006e

Description

The University of Chicago's Biological Sciences Division (BSD) invites applications from PhDs and MDs (or foreign equivalents) who aspire to conduct independent research in an academic faculty position. Each Pathways to Independence Instructor will conduct a program of mentored research based on qualifications, training, academic interests, and choice of mentor. Appointment will be made at the faculty rank of Instructor for up to two years for the initial appointment and for no more than four years total in an appropriate academic department of the BSD. Appointees are eligible to apply for support by institutional career development awards or other similar funding opportunities and will be encouraged to apply for national career development awards. We especially welcome applicants whose research goals match well to those of our faculty.

By the start of appointment, basic scientists must have completed postdoctoral training. By the start of appointment, physician-scientists must have completed clinical training, be board eligible/board certified in their field, hold a permanent Illinois medical license, and have been granted University of Chicago Medical Center medical staff privileges. Physician-scientists typically will have at least 75% protected time for research for the duration of the appointment.
