Job Description

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES: The Department of Science is seeking a full-time faculty member to teach a wide range of Biology courses offered. This includes preparing and presenting lectures in multiple modalities, developing laboratory exercises, leading and facilitating classroom discussions, and evaluating and grading student performance while maintaining a focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion in pursuing equitable student outcomes. The faculty member will also be responsible for advising students on academic matters, such as course selection and career paths. This is a tenure-track position to be filled for the Spring 2026 semester.

In addition to teaching responsibilities, the faculty member will be expected to contribute to the broader academic community. This may include serving on College committees, supporting grant related activities, and participating in community outreach. The ideal candidate will have a passion for teaching, a deep understanding of Biology, Ecology, Anatomy/ Physiology, and the ability to inspire and engage students. The position will report to the division head and will play a crucial role in shaping the future of Science Programs at the College.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  1. Teach the equivalent of five sections each semester from the Department's Biology course offerings which may include Survey of Biology, Survey of Anatomy & Physiology, Ecology, and related Biology courses with laboratories.
  2. Actively participate in the department's development, implementation, evaluation and assessment of curriculum, courses and programs.
  3. Serve as academic advisor to approximately 18 students.
  4. Hold a minimum of four office hours per week.
  5. Serve on department and college committees.
  6. Work with the department's laboratory technicians to coordinate inventory, supplies and laboratory setup.

Job Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Biology/Biological Sciences and a master's degree in Biology or closely related field (such as Human Physiology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Ecology), both degrees from an accredited institution.
  2. Demonstrated understanding of Biology at the molecular and organismal level, including an understanding of molecular processes and interactions.
  3. Commitment to the community college philosophy.
  4. Demonstrated commitment to quality college-level teaching in Biology at the freshman and sophomore level.
  5. Ability to thrive in a dynamic teaching/learning community requiring flexibility, adaptability, and teamwork.
  6. Record of excellence in college-level teaching, curriculum and program development, outcomes assessment, and maintaining a learner-centered environment.
  7. Knowledge of and successful experience utilizing innovative instructional strategies that support student success and recognize diverse learning styles and abilities including learning communities, interdisciplinary courses, paired courses, project-based learning, and experiential learning.
  8. Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach to working with students and colleagues.
  9. Ability to meet the challenges of a broad curriculum and a student body with diverse abilities, interests and backgrounds.
  10. Demonstrated ability to teach in multiple modalities and use an LMS such as Moodle.
  11. Potential to make significant contributions to curriculum development.
  12. Unrestricted authorization to work in the United States.

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Ph.D. in Biology or Biological Science field (such as Human Physiology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Ecology) from an accredited institution.

Additional Information

COMPENSATION: Full-time, tenure-track, MCCC position with anticipated Annual Salary Range of $52,880-$72,773. Actual salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, determined by a formula-based classification system, consistent with the MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement. Includes participation in a comprehensive employee benefits program including option for membership in the Massachusetts State Employees' Retirement System.
