Biostatistics Core Continuing-Track Faculty Position, Open-Rank

The College of Health Sciences (CHS) at the University of Delaware seeks an experienced, innovative, and highly motivated individual for an open-rank, continuing-track (non-tenure) faculty appointment in the Biostatistics Core, beginning August 15, 2026. The candidate will serve as a key member of research teams across the College, supporting faculty research by providing expertise in study design, advanced statistical analysis, and collaboratively contributing to grant applications and research dissemination. The appointee will hold a continuing-track (CT) faculty appointment affiliated with one of the College’s departments, aligned with the candidate’s expertise and research interests. The position is primarily research-focused, with additional responsibilities including teaching one course per year and engaging in departmental and college service. The CT appointment rank will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. CT faculty with terminal degrees hold professorial rank and have a path to promotion to full professor.

The ideal candidate will have strong statistical expertise, a demonstrated record of successful research collaboration, an appropriate level of scholarly productivity, and exceptional communication and collaboration skills. The candidate should be proficient in statistical software packages such as R and SAS, with experience in Stata, JMP, Python, Mplus, or SPSS considered an asset. Experience in designing statistical approaches for clinical trials and complex/intensive longitudinal studies, and conducting data analysis, is highly desirable. Responsibilities include: (1) contributing to grant applications by conducting power/sample size calculations, developing analysis plans, drafting analysis sections, and serving as senior personnel; (2) recommending and performing novel or optimized analytic methods to ensure reproducibility, robustness, and scientific rigor; and (3) supporting manuscript and grant report development through data visualization and writing the methods and results sections. Experience with grant-funded projects is essential. Exceptional communication and collaboration skills are critical for success in this key role, which involves collaborating with diverse research teams across the College.

QUALIFICATIONS: A Ph.D. in statistics, biostatistics, quantitative psychology, research methodology, or other related field from an accredited institution is required. Experience serving as a statistician in federal and foundation grant applications is preferred. A minimum of two years research experience applying advanced statistical methods in health sciences is highly desirable.

GENERAL INFORMATION: CHS is a dynamic, innovative academic unit with more than 3,400 undergraduate and graduate students and 125 faculty members who are nationally and internationally recognized leaders across multiple disciplines. The College includes approximately 75 research-intensive faculty with $20 million annually in research expenditures. It is housed in multiple buildings on the main campus and is also an anchor tenant of the University’s Science, Technology, and Advanced Research (STAR) Campus. STAR has become an innovation hub that combines research, education, and business, focused on leading topics in health science, biopharmaceuticals, data science, engineering, finance, and other cross-cutting fields of study. There are 7 Departments in CHS, including: 1) Communication Sciences and Disorders (ranked #32 by US News and World Report), 2) Epidemiology, 3) Health Behavior and Nutrition Sciences, 4) Kinesiology and Applied Physiology (ranked #7 according to the National Academy of Kinesiology), 5) Medical and Molecular Sciences, 6) Physical Therapy (ranked #1 by US News and World Report), and the 7) School of Nursing (ranked #74 by US News and World Report). CHS houses several large, interdisciplinary grants with significant funding from the NIH and DoD. Research teams integrate basic, clinical, translational, and interdisciplinary approaches, leveraging extensive resources such as the STAR Campus facilities, specialized clinics, participant and patient registries, and collaborative partnerships, including the Delaware Health Sciences Alliance (DHSA). This environment fosters innovative research aimed at addressing pressing health challenges and improving clinical and population health.
