Black Success Manager (FTC)

As a Black Success Manager, you’ll play a vital role in empowering and supporting Black students across the university. You’ll lead a portfolio of initiatives that enhance the student experience, including self-development courses, alumni mentoring (Black Industry Connections and Empowerment Programme – BICEP), and student networks like the Black Sport Collective (BSC), all under a unified programme.

You’ll be passionate about working with Black students and committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive community. You’ll challenge the status quo, build equitable networks, and bring experience in report writing, event hosting, student engagement, marketing, and evaluation. Strong IT skills and a compassionate, confidential approach are essential.

You’ll hold Level 3 qualifications (e.g., Access to HE, BTEC, A-levels) or have equivalent experience. A key focus will be addressing the Black-white awarding gap, working closely with our Black student community and collaborating with teams across the university, including Sport and the Campaign and Alumni Relations Office.

You’ll manage projects and change initiatives, using appropriate tools to plan and deliver effectively. Your work will be central to achieving our Access and Participation Plan (APP) goals—tracking progress, implementing actions, and shaping future strategies to build a more inclusive culture.

This is a unique opportunity to work directly with Black students and make a meaningful impact. We’re looking for someone who believes in the power of our students, is committed to equity, and eager to grow in a more inclusive university environment.

What we offer:

  • Hybrid working – remote and on our beautiful campus
  • Access to award-winning fitness facilities
  • Staff discounts and travel schemes
  • 30 days holiday (plus university closure days and purchase leave scheme)
  • Attractive pension scheme

You’ll also enjoy a wide range of benefits and rewards. For full details, visit our benefits website.

One more thing We understand people from marginalised groups may hesitate to apply unless they meet every requirement. But we value diverse perspectives and experiences. If you don’t tick every box, you might be underselling yourself—we encourage you to apply.

Next steps: Learn more about the role via our dedicated microsite. For full details, see the role profile. To apply, please click on the 'Apply' button above and complete your details.

This is a full-time (36.25 hours/week), fixed-term role until 31 July 2029. We welcome applications for part-time work (minimum 29 hours/week)—please specify your preferred hours. Job share arrangements may also be considered.

Internal candidates seeking secondment should ensure prior agreement from their current line manager and the manager of their substantive post.

For further questions, contact Doug Little, Head of EDI Managers and Development Lead doug.little@nottingham.ac.uk. Please note: applications sent directly to this email will not be accepted.
