Bloch Scholars Program Support Coordinator, UMKC Academic Support & Mentoring

Hiring Department

The Bloch Scholars Program (BSP) is a need-based, full tuition and fees scholarship program designed for local Kansas City students who have a drive to succeed and intend to earn a bachelor's degree but may not be considered for traditional scholarships based on past academic performance or life circumstances. We are committed to empowering students to pursue their educational goals through comprehensive financial, academic, and social support.

The Bloch Scholars Program works collaboratively with institutional partners to ensure students receive consistent, high-quality support throughout their academic journey. Currently the program serves approximately 115 scholars at UMKC and roughly 300 students across all program partner institutions: Metropolitan Community College (MCC), Donnelly College, and Rockhurst University.

Job Description

The Bloch Scholars Program Support Coordinator is a dual focus role: serving as the primary operational lead as well as maintaining a structured role in direct student support for Bloch Scholars at UMKC. The role requires strong attention to detail, the ability to manage multiple ongoing responsibilities, and a commitment to proactive monitoring rather than reactive problem-solving.

Essential Functions

The essential functions below outline the core responsibilities of this position. Additional related duties may be assigned to support program and division goals.

Program Operations Management

  • Maintain the Bloch Scholars Program calendar, incorporating UMKC academic deadlines, scholarship and program requirements, student communication timelines, and internal program milestones.
  • Coordinate all program-related communications, ensuring reminders, deadlines, and outreach messages are accurate, timely, and consistently delivered.
  • Manage scheduling systems and reminders related to student meetings, events, and required program touchpoints.
  • Develop and update templates and guides for scholarship requirements, scholar expectations, and general university navigation used internally for current scholars and externally for scholarship recruitment and partnerships.
  • Prepare reports to highlight the impact of the Bloch Scholars Program, particularly its role in improving retention, creating a sense of belonging, and promoting inclusion on campus

Scholar Support & Engagement

  • Hold scheduled office hours weekly, including evening hours for transfer students and adult learners, to provide students with the opportunity to voice questions and concerns.
  • Work with the Director to facilitate recurring progress check-ins for scholars who are not meeting requirements, focusing on promoting confidence through personalized goal setting and strategic planning in both one-on-one and group settings.
  • Design and implement co-curricular programming that meets the needs of Bloch Scholars while establishing repeatable event and workshop frameworks each semester.
  • Connect scholars to support resources, including referrals to campus partners, community resources, etc.
  • Document referrals and collaboration efforts to support continuity across systems and ensure logistical details are completed accurately and consistently.

Expectation & Requirement Tracking

  • Monitor scholar academic progress, participation, and enrollment throughout each term, including:
    • Full-time enrollment status
    • Advising and program requirement completion
    • Academic alerts and flags and ensure appropriate follow-up and documentation
    • Summer funding requests
    • Work with the director to support scholars through maintaining required forms, meetings, and follow-up steps.

Scholarship Application & Selection Support

  • Assist with scholarship recruitment, eligibility screening, application review, and selection processes.
  • Participate in blind application reviews with partner institutions as needed.

Shift

  • Full time position within Academic Support & Mentoring (ASM)
  • Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required during peak program periods and special events.
  • Position requires flexibility across the academic calendar

Minimum Qualifications
