Key Responsibilities:
Scholarship & Research
- Conduct externally funded, high-impact research in community and public health nursing, focusing on rural health, social determinants of health, and health disparities affecting North Carolina communities.
- Promote interdisciplinary research collaborations within the College of Health Sciences, engaging faculty across nursing, public health, social work, and allied health sciences.
- Publish in peer-reviewed journals and present at national and international conferences to enhance UNCP’s scholarly impact.
Teaching & Mentorship
- Develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in community health nursing, population health, and health promotion, integrating evidence-based practices and real-world applications.
- Mentor faculty and students in research, leadership development, and professional growth, with an emphasis on health disparities and rural healthcare innovation.
- Support the advancement of doctoral nursing education and research in collaboration with academic and clinical partners.
Community Engagement & Program Development
- Strengthen the partnerships with public health agencies, community health organizations, tribal health systems, and rural healthcare providers to improve population health outcomes with a special focus on rural, indigenous, and underserved populations.
- Lead service-learning initiatives and community-based participatory research (CBPR) research to address the social determinants of health and health disparities and other pressing healthcare needs of Southeastern North Carolina and beyond.
- Advance UNCP’s mission by engaging with local, regional, and national health organizations to support policy development and workforce expansion.
- Expand interprofessional education and collaboration in population health initiatives.
- Secure grants and funding to advance community health projects.
Funding Acquisition & Leadership
- Secure external funding through competitive grants and philanthropic contributions (e.g., NIH, HRSA, CDC, private foundations) to expand undergraduate students’ involvement in research and community engagement initiatives.
- Serve as a thought leader in healthcare policy, nursing workforce development, and community-based health interventions.
- Provide strategic leadership in faculty development, curricular innovation, and nursing education best practices within the College of Health Sciences.

Minimum Training and Experience Requirements:
- Doctorate in Nursing (PhD, DNP) or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
- Current RN licensure (or eligibility for licensure) in North Carolina.
- A nationally recognized record of scholarship, grant funding, and academic leadership in community and population health.
- Demonstrated expertise in rural health, health disparity, and community-based participatory research (CBPR).
- A strong commitment to health quality and equity particularly in the context of rural and underserved populations.
- Experience developing and implementing interprofessional education and collaborative healthcare models is preferred.
License or Certification required by statute or regulation: Current RN licensure (or eligibility for licensure) in North Carolina.
