Primary Purpose of the Organization:
The Division of Facilities Management functions are to design, construct, maintain and operate the physical facilities of the University. The number one objective of the department is to provide and maintain facilities that will enhance and support the mission and academic goals of the University. Primary Purpose of the Position:
The incumbent of this position is responsible for the care of campus turf both on campus, athletic fields, satellite locations, and intramural fields. Troubleshooting and maintenance of simple to moderately complex turf issues on both campus and athletic fields. Apply fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, fungicides, overseeding and top dressing to turf areas as applicable whether directly or by way of outsourced services. Assist in the planning of and performing of aeration of all campus zones and provide documented product usage, location used, and all documentation is to be submitted to the Grounds Supervisor.
Position is responsible for campus appearance. This includes but is not limited to using mowers, trimmers, edgers, backpack blowers, sprayers and spreaders as well as other ground-related equipment. Responsible for reporting any and all issues with equipment or needed repairs and/or replacement to the Grounds Supervisor.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalency.
- Some knowledge of cleaning procedures, ability to follow instructions and to perform medium to heavy physical work, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- A valid driver's license. Must have an acceptable driving record, which may require up to five years of driving experience with no more than one minor fault accident or violation in the past three years. The University will review the driver's license and records periodically for compliance.
Knowledge skills and abilities:
Customer Service: Anticipates customers' needs and resolves concerns promptly and respectfully.
Interpersonal Skills: Manages resources and co-workers to distribute workload even during peak periods.
Dependability: Arrives at work, staff meetings, and other functions on time. Follows University, Facilities Management, and work area annual and sick leave policies. Notifies supervisor before the beginning of shift if you are going to be late or absent. Notify the supervisor well in advance of any upcoming absences.
Teamwork: Willingly cooperates with supervisors and co-workers to accomplish assigned tasks. Maintains a positive attitude towards supervisor, co-workers, and the job. Respectfully discusses the most effective way to perform tasks and then works together to get the job done.
Attention to Detail: Ability to accomplish tasks and processes accurately and completely.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Five to ten years of experience in landscaping
- Valid CDL license
- North Carolina Pesticide License
